small market teams that have cap space, if they want to compete should use that space on actual players instead of paper moves

our gm is more focused on waiting for a blah goalie craig anderson to decide if he wants to come back for 1 more year

- homiedclown

There are two ways to weaponize cap space. You can do what Arizona did and take on bad players and get a pick back for the service. Or you can take on LTIR contracts, as Adams did.

They asked if Anderson wanted to come back. This does not necessarily mean they are holding up their offseason. For all we know he may have been told he was going to be an insurance policy / #3 goalie.

He made it through 2020 unscathed.
So, there is that.

Paying 1.5 million for a #3 goalie seems very unlikely.

Current PC “if we pick and 9” “moving up as high as possible is the best strategy”

Why? It is only a half mill above the vet minimum. They probably also see him as a coach and obviously great around the kids.

EDIT: I would think that at 1.5 he isn't going to be the primary guy or even an important piece.

You have to be able to acquire the players full contract under the cap before you can move him to LTIR.

#Sabres GM Adams says he has been in touch with goalie Dustin Tokarski/his representation as recent as “a few days ago” — “definitely a conversation we’re still having”

Again, it's fine if it's for Rochester.

That was the "plan" last year as well. It doesn't work, though, when you fill your roster with goaltenders whose durability make Tim Connolly look like an Ironman.

This is upsetting. Thankfully, i just came off a trail, and i'm planning another section before summer is done, else i'd be ranting on the radio right now.

I shall wait for the offseason before I judge, but this feels like a gut punch and a slap in the face right now. I bought seasons 11 rows behind the goalie to see this? I don't know why they would do this. A real goalie would be so great for team development, especially with as young a team as we have. 55 games from UPL? They really must think he can do it. I'd tell Levi the job is yours and $1 million per year for 3 years if you're good enough to take it. We're so screwed.

As I say waaaaay too many years: "At least I have the Yankees." In Casman we trust.

It’s literally the same plan as last year. I said the same thing last year when the signed Anderson.

Relying on a 40+ YO goalie to play a lot of games is a really bad plan.

So us signing a goaltending insurance policy is upsetting?

I like Andy. Glad he’s back.

I don’t understand why Wild got rid of Fiala if he is a good young player. Couldn’t figure out how to get his next contract to fit?

Maybe I’m being naive, but my hope is the Sabres have been lean for long enough. When did Kim make that comment? They rid themselves of a lot of big contracts since. I believe they will bring in a big free agent forward, gritty forward and a goalie. I’d go all in on Forsberg. Been saying it for months now.
