The move itself doesn't bother me, but the timing is a little weird. Like, why now? You could make that move any time.

Kevo actually explained that pretty clearly at 805 on GR. The link is not available yet but if anyone is impatient you can still rewind in the app.

Essentially there are several reasons to do it now, and one of those is because agents see that 'need' to reach the cap floor and try to drive their clients contracts up. With Bishop's contract getting you closer to the floor, this isn't as much of a driving factor in negotiations.

So if the move could be made at any time... why not now? After all, it has to be made sometime.

Mogilny should be in for his stats alone, not to mention being a building block for ALL Russian players, dude is literally the Russian OG of NHL hockey and gets shat on every year. Total BS.

Alfie gets in before Mogilny is a JOKE

Honestly, I don't see it. I get the thinking behind it, but I don't think it's really applicable here. This team finished nearly 30 points out of a playoff spot in one of the smallest markets in sports. That means there are only 2 types of players that will be willing to sign here. The first is the one that is desperate to stay in the show. He won't have that leverage. The second is the one that will be going to the highest bidder no matter what, where if you want the guy, you're going to have to meet or exceed what other teams are doing regardless of where your floor is. You're essentially opening an umbrella indoors at this point of the offseason. He's either outthinking himself and nobody else, or signaling a very boring offseason without trying to sound like he's trying to signal a very boring offseason.

homie don't think anyone is asking them to TM this thing, but they have assets to supplement this young core without hurting the future. I bag on Olofsson just to piss Boss of, but he seems on the cusp. Maybe that wrist injury was a blessing because it really helped his 5vs5 play, kid could explode.

What mogilny did was brave, detective russia

I'm not sure if that has any importance on being a hall of Famer?

He wasnt the 1st russian player correct? just the 1st to skip out on his country to play in north America

I thought many players headed over soon after.
Mogilny didnt pave the way if I remember correctly, he just left without waiting for a russian agreement and blessing.

Jez, who knew that JT Miller was a Center and a top six, number 1 at that. Had quite the debate about the frequency of trades involving top 6 C's. A couple years ago. Was told at the time they don't happen. Boy was that a bad take.
Reminded me of the debate yesterday on trade values to move up 2 spots (not directed at you Lunion (sp]).

I don't anticipate a very exciting offseason, especially in free agency, but I don't think it's because they're being intentionally cheap either. I do believe there's a plan in place here. My problem is that I don't see that high of a ceiling when it all comes to fruition, especially up front.

I agree, 2 sides to the story.

Youngish goal scorer who proved his work ethic of being a 7th round pick and his resilience...
Probably affordable with term and $ , team well under the cap.

And

Youngish team with plenty of potential replacements for his goal scoring. $ and term needing to go to tage, power. Dahlin and cozens during the term of olofsson's career.
Small and probably not gonna strive in the playoffs, where guys get tougher to play agaisnt.

Guess we wouldn't know that about the playoffs until he actually played in them. Could say that about most of the team.

Longevity has a lot to do with it in the voters' minds. Should it? Probably not, but it does. If Daniel Alfredsson doesn't play his entire career in Ottawa, I doubt he's a Hall of Famer.

I think you're skipping over the players that 'like what they see' and want to be a part of something. We're pessimistic poop but these types of players are out there, and Subban is one of them.

He did actually directly reference the low cash amount. Which was cringy. But it was more so as a benefit instead of a reason.
