And I really don't think a team is going to give up a top 10 pick for Jones. Maybe a 1st in the 20's but top 10 especially 7th overall is likely crazy.
- Theo Fox

Doubt if Jones waives to go to Ottawa anyway.

Slightly more likely he may want to reunite with Torts in Philly. Lots of bad contracts there to take back. I think you recently posted a trade proposal with them.

Rangers columnist Arthur Staples reporting a possible rift between Artemi Panarin and general manager Chris Drury, postulating a possible trade request out of NY.
- Theo Fox

I read the article, and being a life long NYer, can confirm two things based on what I read/hear/know/etc...

Staple is giving pure speculation. Drury was reportedly not happy with his production during the post season, but it was also clear Mika and Kreider were the focal points of the offense, and Panarin was geared in a more supportive role. I had the pleasure of watching all the games. The other note, NO ONE else in NY in reporting this, and I read all the hockey writers here (unfortunately, and have no idea why lol.) Plus, his contract from a cap/NMC perspective is pretty much unmovable.

With that said, I like the Richardson hiring. Top coaches are starting to thin out, definitely no reason to wait on Trotz, and the team needs to make player/pick moves in a decent period of time so Luke can know what he will be working with.

Seems crazy, but IMO the Hawks are making solid turn arounds as of right now, but we all know that can easily change in the next hour or so.

Panarin out of the Big Apple, Kane to NYR? Rangers have a lot of nice young players, might as well throw it out there.

I can tell you all Ranger fans here want that. Panarin and Lafreniere for Kane and a mid round pick. And not for nothing, it doesn't make much sense.

Good point about Jones needing to waive just like Kane and Toews.

Here's the Flyers trade proposal I made earlier in the week:

Flyers receive:
* Seth Jones

Blackhawks receive:
* Ryan Ellis
* James van Riemsdyk
* Emil Andrae
* 2022 1st

Chicago gets a high draft pick and a top prospect plus a pair of hefty contracts. The head scratcher is Ellis given he still has 5 years left at $6.25M AAV.

For one thing, Ellis hasn't played a full season since 2018-19 (then 49, 35, and 4 over the last 3) so staying healthy is a concern which means could the Hawks gain someone they can put on LTIR at some point (or multiple points).

Is this advantageous for the Hawks in any way?

Another thing, even if he stays healthy, what's better: Jones at 8 x $9.5M or Ellis at 5 x $6.25M? Both are RHD with great puck skills and offensive talent yet I would argue Ellis is the better defender.

Regardless, a trade like this is probably unrealistic for many reasons. Doubt the Flyers would go for this but you never know.

Saw an article earlier today about the Flyers looking to shed a lot of salary so taking on Jones only makes sense if they shed enough to not only take him on but also meet their other roster objectives.

Thanks for the excellent intel. Always great to read these perspectives of those who read extensively about other teams more local to them.

I am curious as to why when Ducharme was fired, Montreal passed over Richardson and hired St. Louis who had no coaching experience at any level except for his son’s youth hockey team.

I am interested to see who Richardson and KD choose to be assistant coaches.
Also interesting to see what happens at Rockford.
I am not sure if Richardson will be great or not (but I was not a fan of King).
The early reaction on various sites (HB and others) seems to be very positive on Richardson.

Not having the ability to speak French used to disqualify potential coaches from coaching in Montreal. No idea if this is still the case or if Richardson can speak French, but that could be the reason?

I am so &^%$ing tired of all of these posts about using the draft to rebuild the team. The number of draft picks that become true NHL caliber players is so low that it is mind boggling. A bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush, keep DeBrincat, he is like a golden goose. The players acquired for him will most almost certainly NOT be him or produce like him. Strome is a keeper too despite his up and down career. As for Kane, don't make the same mistake that was made with Bobby Hull. Make Kane a Hawk for life. Toews is another story entirely, he isn't even close to the player he once was. If he wants to go then trade him to anyone who will take him, retain half of his salary and suddenly you GAIN 5MM in cap space versus having a 30 point player making 10MM a year. The draft CANNOT shape a team in 5 years...too many draftees never amount to anything.
- Chisoxhawk

Lord, I could have written this. . . .

And no - not really assinine -if you grasp the main point that you cannot possibly rebuild in a single or two drafts.

I'd have dropped in the line about and forget about any Russians not already outside of Russia (And look closely at those outside of Russia -as ties back there can have a real and tangible impact) ... oh well... mileage varies.

Like the coach pick, liked Richardson as a defenseman -ok not the same thing... not meaning it was.

So when he says “The draft CANNOT shape a team in 5 years” the main point that you grasped from his post was that “you cannot possibly rebuild in a single or two drafts”?

Ok then.

As I was saying…asinine.

You build the foundation of your hopefully cup winning team. Through the draft and then fill in with trades and free agent signings to supplement the team. To to have better chance at success. It takes time and patience.

In his most recent article in the Athletic, Scott Powers reported that Caleb Jones is likely to re-sign with the Hawks.

Powers also stated that the organization is also interested in having Anders Sorensen be the permanent head coach of the Hogs.

If that's the case and Luke Richardson is the new Hawks head coach, where does that leave Derek King?

Doubt he would return to Rockford as an assistant swapping roles with Sorensen who was his assistant. Could King be one of Richardson's assistants?

Yo LA, you may find this a good listen. Over at Dobber they have a podcast with an LA beat writer talking about the squad hitting on most every subject, slotting, rookies, will they make trades to go for it and even Dcat is mentioned. https://dobberhockey.com/...es-kings-ft-andrew-knoll/
