The Sens will get a very good player at #7. I like Cutter Gauthier but if he is gone that will mean one of those other 6 guys most people have picked before Gauthier will be available. Do not trade that pick unless you're getting a sure fire steal otherwise I agree 100% - it would be dumb to do so.

Yup.
And most poeople, Kevin included, have gone over what a bad evaluator of PRO talent that PD is. So he should stick to his strength and make the pick and trade later. Because so many of the UFA's and even some RFA's are going to be wildly over paid. We don't want to be doing the overpaying.

Do you disbelieve Dorion when he says he is going to trade the #7 pick?

With the roster, where it stands now, no way they challenge for a playoff spot next season. They have no choice but to use that pick to upgrade the roster now. They cant keep wasting the prime years of Brady and Chabot. I don't understand why anyone would think holding onto the pick is the best thing to do because unless they see next the two seasons as continuing the rebuild. End of story.

Its true , its time to jump out of the nest. It can be scary but then you learn to fly. The trust in dorio is an issue but its time regardless.

THe question would be if that pick is enough to put them into the playoffs. A couple teams look like they could be vulnerable, but the Sens team has question marks even with trading the pick for a top 6 player.

Hoping to see a blog dedicated to Alfie getting into the Hall. Great accomplishment for the individual and team. While a Cup may not have been had, now there is at least a piece recognized those great Sens years.

Slowly, good news about the Sens coming to light. Let’s hope that continues.

Important to note the Alfie's comment after the nomination saying it was good for him. But, he also said, it is important for the team, the city and the fans. Amen.

Great post! Ottawa squandered getting additional top 3 of 5 picks by having the fools gold finish to the last 2 seasons when there was no pressure. Had Ottawa slotted into the top spots, who knows what else they would have in the pipeline

Yeah exactly. I think Ottawa needs to REALLY hit on this 7th Overall pick. It's a very very important part of the puzzle. That with Stutlze, Sanderson developing well and signing great deals with Norris.

Thoughts on White, Zaitsev, and Murray contracts?

Not to mention 6 of those 8 are top 10 picks, 7 are first rounders.

Colorado drafted four of those players, and drafted well (lesson: invest in amateur scouting). To get Kadri, Burakovsky, Toews, and Nichushkin they traded exactly ZERO first round picks away (lesson: invest in pro scouting). They used their picks and drafted and traded well. Point is you don't trade away first round picks. Especially top ten picks. Ever. You just don't. It is dumb.

Exactly! Top 10 picks are so valuable and there's potential to get some superstar players - even outside the top 3 (Kopitar, Rantanen, Kessel, Backstrom, Couture, Kadri, Zibanejad, Scheifele, Rielly, Nurse, etc)

Investing in Pro Scouting is maybe the BIGGEST problem with the Sens. Their ability to get players that have been in the NHL for years and for those players to make an impact for consecutive years (not just a back up goalie that goes on a heater) is what urks me

Zaitsev and Murray are blocking players who should be in the NHL and need to be moved out of the way.
I would like to see how White would do with a better head cocah. White's contract is high for production to date but he i still a useful player.
