Is it at all possible that if Kadri wins the cup he'd sign here for a bit cheaper?
Kind of doubting it but we know he loves Toronto and lives off passion...if he wins the cup the next thing to keep the fuel going would be bringing a cup to Toronto.
He is 32 in October. In the open market he isnt getting anything huge on anything more than a 4 year deal. Likely 7-7.5M.
If Leafs went 7 years and he took a bit of a pay cut on value is there something there? - Santo_44
You really think Shanny and Dubas would eat crow and bring him back? Really??
You haven't been paying attention.
Naz is not one of Dubas and Shanny's "boyz".
Unfortunately for Leaf fans, this is what Gabriel Landeskog said about Naz after the game last night: "He would do anything to win".

It was 4 years ago.
What do you mean eat crow? People grow, people change and Dubas is an advocate of that. He brings in guys like Ho-Sang and Clune as players who have had various rough pasts as human beings.
Kadri wasn't like them, he just (frank)ed up way too many times getting suspended every playoffs. He doesn't hold grudges, in fact I think every reasonable Leaf fan can see Kadri has smartened up and has became a better player for it. I am sure Dubas sees the same.
You can hold a grudge with Dubas for trading him, or Kadri for being a clueless idiot...I am well past it and it seems the general fanbase is as well. You do you

Was Cooper always a whiny (frank) or am I just a Leaf fan that experienced it full force for 2 weeks and now realize it? - Santo_44
He's notorious for it throughout the league. Constant complaining. He's always blamed everybody else every time they lose. I'm not sure why, but the Leafs were never really on the receiving end till now.

Seriously, Cooper should shut the hell up. - Scabeh
line changes and too many men are like the NHL's version of travelling to the NBA. If they called it by the book the entire game would be played at 3 on 3, and the boxes would be full all game. Complaining about it like the world just ended NOW is silly. Especially when there is a good chance Tampa wouldn't have 2 cups had they called plays like that.

You don't win 2 cups and enter your 3rd final in a row without having the refs give you more calls then not. It is a salary cap era it takes some luck to do so...so he should shut the (frank) up. As a guy who keeps winning he sure doesn't act like a winner.

I don't doubt that but when he was a Leaf he seemed to not be able to grasp what was needed and when vs what was unnecessary and costly to his team - the back to back suspensions in the playoffs primairly.
I think Kadri has matured a lot and would/will make whatever team he ends up on better, I'm not sure if he would want to come back to Toronto and even if he did is JT ready and willing to shift to the wing? Brining Kadri back to play 3rd line centre is wasteful to me, but a 2nd line of JT - Naz and someone with Marner and AM on line 1 with someone would be a nice 1, 2 look. Yes I left Willy out of the mix as I think to get Kadri he is gone.
I am doubtful he ends up back as a Leaf next season but I guess you never know.

Money can be moved around.
That line is a tired line, been proved wrong so many times. - Santo_44
Of course money can be moved around but $7.5M which I think you suggested creates some big holes when it comes to finding goalies. Signing him to a 7 year deal seems like a bad idea. I wanted to get him before he started having a good playoff. I’m not sure we can afford given what else needs to get done.

As you put it essentially, sometimes it takes a player to be traded to mature and reach greatness. I believe Marc Savard was a similar player? Generally disliked early on in his career and once he matured he was a guy everyone wanted on their team. I could be wrong but that's my memory of how it went.
I don't see Kadri taking a discount to come to Toronto so yes Nylander likely would be traded for it to happen. However, you'd still have a goalie issue with the same cap structure.
All I'd like to know though is how are the avalanche winning without tom wilson?!

Except the world probably just ended for Tampa. - bobbyisno1
This year is pretty much over for them, but statements like the world just ended is a joke.
1) they're still a stacked team, and will be next year.
2) injuries this year were a much bigger problem than a small missed call that has gone their way dozens of times.
3) they're just not the better team this year, Colorado is. that's true even if the refs call that back. I suspect the Avs win anyway.
4) if the world is ending for them after 2 cups and a finals, that's pathetic.

Yeah Tampa has had some solid injury luck to make the finals 3 years in a row and potentially win all 3 years. Avs still have to close this out but I wouldn't be surprised if there's a little bit of negativity in the players minds. "We've played a lot. I'm tired. We're banged up." etc.
I would like to see Corey Perry make the finals 3 years in a row and fail all 3 years.

I like it when people make lists in response to jokes. It’s comforting

Hey I’ll take a hammer who scores 25 goals has really good wheels and can play 1st line minutes while also PK & PP… Wilson isn’t perfect but he’s not Reeves either … he can play… Any team would love to have him…

They also know that the other team is allowed to cheat now too. That’s got to be a bit disquieting

The fact that it was advantageous to his team last year doesn't change the fact that Colorado DID have too many men on the ice.
Kadri changed for Nicushkin who didn't leave the ice - so his replacement was actually MacKinnon who was probably 15-20 feet from the bench when Kadri came on. It gave him time to get up to full speed and corral the pass about 40 feet from his own bench in the middle of the ice at the blue line - while the guy he ended up replacing was just reaching the bench.
As a Leaf fan, we have been called for too many men on marginal plays all year long. This was far more egregious than that, and you really shouldn't allow that advantage in overtime to decide a game.
I don't really care (in my hockey pool, I have all Colorado and Tampa players and am stomping the rest of them), but I was more irritated by the whistles being completely put away because that, more than anything, ruins the play. It's not surprising that the game ended with some controversy given that the officials stopped doing their job at the end of the 2nd period.
