Tampa asking Ryan McDonagh if there are any teams he would consider being traded to... He has a full NMC and is making 7 mill for 4 more years. He is also 33 years old.

Free agency doesn't start for another two weeks and you're already calling the offseason a loss - eichiefs9
It's very early to panic. I'm a little nervous the Islanders will not be able to sign a top UFA forward. We just have to let it play out.

I was just looking for a reason to post that tbh. Nielsen’s 2nd slap always gets me. Even 100 times later. |

Probably didn't submit an offer because the biggest priority is getting a defenseman and, given what Fiala was ultimately traded for, it would have cost them their 1st round pick and a very good prospect to get him. Trade those assets for Fiala and you've got nothing left over to acquire a defenseman with.
The forwards can be addressed through free agency, the defense can't. I'd rather pay Forsberg ~$9M/year than give up a 1st and a good prospect AND pay Fiala ~$8M - eichiefs9
For the Isles to land Forsberg you have to pay 10-11 a year. I don't see him making only a million more then Fiala

This team never does anything. This old useless tool shed will bring back virtually the same team minus a top 6 forward and defenseman for the 5th straight summer. It’s a comedy act - BringNYIhome

Obviously Nashville has the upper hand being able to give him that 8th year, but I don't realistically think anyone is going to give him a 7yr deal with an AAV that pays him the same total value that an 8yr deal would.
If money is his only motivating factor then his best chance to get it is with Nashville and last I saw they really weren't close on anything. Obviously still two weeks to go and a lot can change, but nobody is paying Forsberg $11M/year. I'm skeptical that anyone even goes to $10M.
edit: nevermind, seems like they're making some progress |

Sounds like CGY offered him about $8.5M per for the max term. If we were going to "match" that we'd have to pay him around $10M AAV over 7 years - eichiefs9

Trade for his rights and save 2 mil. Or when he signs go after matt tkachuk or Andrew Mangiapane

Couldn’t we hypothetically trade for his rights before free agency and extend him for 8 years at a 9 million aav? Completely unrealistic I know but logistically would work. |

It will of course most likely never happen, but it is aligned with the rules and a way to get him signed while bringing down the cap hit. It also allows Calgary to get some kind of return instead of nothing. |

True.
Kinda hoping it doesn’t happen. Cheering for Gaudreau would leave me feeling… icky. |

There is a bigger issue that could loom of the NHL and the Islanders. That is the affect of the Russian war and sanctions. There are questions if the Russian players will be allowed to come back and play.
This could have a major impact on the NHL and the Islanders in particular. It could leave us with no goalies. This would leave Lou having to rethink draft and free agency with possibly switching priorities to acquiring a goaltender as the number one priority.
I am sure we will hear more leading up to the draft and free agency. |

No idea why Johnny would want to sign with Philly and Torts. Why recycle this coaches instead of hiring a young offensive minded coach? |
