I see the blog will be inundated with Panarin trade possibilities and what ifs associated with his cap space. - airjan23
I guess we could just leave it a ghost town until the draft 🤷‍♂️ |

A logical next step would be the American Hockey League, but Othmann won't be eligible to play for the Rangers' Hartford affiliate next season. Because he's only 19 (and won't turn 20 until Jan. 5), they'd be required to send him back to the OHL if he doesn't make the NHL roster.
didnt realize this |

Alright boys Happy Saturday! I got a trade proposal for all of you on this fine morning.
Laf straight up for Norris. Would Ottawa do it is really the question.

I highly doubt they do it.
Maybe for Stutzle? |

You give Othman his 9 games and then have a big decision to make |

Visiting from the Chicago board. What's your take on yesterday's Athletic article by Arthur Staples about a possible rift between Panarin and Drury.?
If Panarin wants out, but wants to stay in the NYC metro area, let's say he names NJ or the Islanders as the only two places he would waive his NMC for. Would Drury trade him within the division?
Just asking because there's a lot of trade proposals around involving Debrincat from Chicago to NJ for the 2nd overall, plus additional prospects/picks.
Rangers would have the advantage in a trade scenario because they can retain up to 1/2 (5.8M) of Panarin's cap hit. Devils may want to have the cost certainty of Panarin for 4 years at 5.8M, vs 1 year of Debrincat at 6.4M, then go through negotiations with him next year.
Would you trade Panarin, 1/2 retained, for the 2nd overall plus a prospect? You gain some cap space and probably wind up with 2 decent young players. |

These games are not my fortè, but I'd say there is no way we could retain anywhere near 50% on Bread. We are already in a cap crunch for next season and we would then have to replace out entire 2nd line with a bargain mentality.
Plus, I would imagine it's pretty likely that Drury voicing complaints about Panarin not fighting through the tough areas in the playoffs does not constitute an actual "rift."

No team will ever pay any player almost 24 million to not play on a team. Thats ludicrous. So you might as well get that out of your head.
No way do I trade Panarin for the 2nd overall and a prospect.
This so called rift is, im sure being way over blown. Yes Drury was unhappy with Panarins play, but Im sure Panarin was also. There is no way Drury is pacing in his office with a juju doll of Panarin sticking pins in it. This was just one playoff.

Thanks for the response. You could also retain less, say 3.5M, and the other team is on the hook for the other 8.M, giving the Rangers 8M more in cap space.

Fair point. Could always retain less but it's a moot point. I agree that the story won't lead to anything.
I had a chance to review Panarin's contract details on cap friendly. It's structured so that his base salary is only 1M, with huge bonus payouts from 7 to 11.5M at the beginning of the league year. I didn't know that. |

Imo Bread just needs some size on his line. Where two guys, say one is Kravtsov, who can open up space for him. Center is a one we need to acquire for him, but it doesn’t have to be an all star.
If they could work out the salary retention for Toews in a trade I think that would work. They can’t commit to anyone long term thus why he’s a good option imo. One year of Toews at 5.2 or something like that we can do. He’s def not as good as he used to be so it shouldn’t cost us too much in assets. He is still close to 60% on faceoffs so we’d kill that bird also. He may have even played with Bread in Chicago I’m not sure.
Does he want to leave there tho is the question |

I think next year Bread plays with Zib and CK moves to his offside.
Kid line next up. And sign a 3c I would want Copp.

Copp is going to be overpaid as the 3C. He also said in his exit interviews he wants to be put in a leadership role wherever he signs next. I don’t see that in NY given who we already have. |

My realistic off-season hopes, Frank off JRR for disagreeing:
Resign Kakko and Motte
Let Vatrano and Strome walk
Move off of Georgiev and Nemeth
Sign cheap backup goalie and 6th/7th D man
Try to find another 2/3 center via trade. If nothing is out there then try to bring back Copp

I get what you're saying. But, if things don't materialize I think we could do a whole lot worse than Copp. He will make more than the average for a 3C. But, I also think he IS more than an average 3C. Move up and down if needed, play on PP2, take important draws... |

Copp adds so much flexibility into the top 6 with Goodrow capable of playing 3c
To R9479- Also great friends with Trouba and some other Rangers- he’s already part of the leadership group |

Is he though? He’s never been above 40 pts his entire career until this year. For what he’s going to be paid, I’d guess 5-6, if he puts up 38 pts im sure we’re not going to be happy with that. |

I’ve done a few of these. This is my favorite so far, and probably most reasonable also lol
I got Gaudreau from Minnisota. Not flashy, or sexy..just something we need. I’ve dumped Nemeth and signed Motte and Vatrano all with some money left over 3 |
