that is why teams will favor US college players, you have 4 years to sign them.
unlike canadians junior league 2 years. - fidopro
who makes these rules, and why would they make sense?

Hmmm. Can CHL players just refuse to sign their contracts and become UFAs at the end of the 2 years?
You often hear about the NCAA players (Schultz, Vesey, etc.) who refuse to sign and become UFAs, but I can't remember an example of CHL players doing the same. |

no, they become eligible for the draft as 20 y/o. if I'm not mistaken.

if he does want to play in MTL, I do hope he gets the chance if he does all the right things, would be welcomed change instead of just applying cancel culture and moving on. - Pat1993

Okay that makes sense. Really no incentive for CHLers to hold out then. You'll just get drafted by some other poopty team lol.

if the team offered them a contrat.
if the team didn't offer a contract, yes they become UFAs. |

So in Mailloux's case in particular, if we don't offer him a contract, he becomes a UFA... in that case do we get the compensatory 2nd? |

For me the teams that make most sense aside from Dallas are Edmonton and Toronto! They need a RD… I know, I know he wants to play in the US but what about a cup? Nylander is in reach with a little creativity. It would include more from Montreal… Petry and Anderson for Nylander plus a salary dump and a pick or a prospect! Nylander can then flipped if not resigned! |

if Petry wants a cup, he'll probably consider going somewhere else other than Toronto...

no kidding
plus I don't want Nylander. I wouldn't even trade Anderson straight up for him. |

A Petry trade won’t be perfect! Just saying teams that really need a RD are Edmonton and Toronto! I’d explore it! We get rid of 2 big contracts for a player that could play with Suzuki and Caufield and becomes a UFA in 2 years. |

Roman Josi actually had more first-place votes than Cale Makar for the Norris Trophy: 98-92. Extremely close ballot that Makar won |

I don't give a poop who plays with Suzuki and Caufield for the next 2 years. Habs will suck badly for the next 2 years.
I'm interested in who will play with them in 3 years! that's when they'll start being relevent. the dcore will have matured, Primeau will be the starter, Wright will be a legit top6 center....
until then kids can play with Armia I don't give a poop. |

I think that's kind of a bad way to look at it, Suzuki and Caufield still have a learning curve ahead of them, ideally you'd want them to play with the best player possible right now.
