After Klingberg and Letang I am not sure there's a lot of good puck moving d on the UFA market. And teams are always looking for a good RHD.

I really don't get the rhetoric going around that the Habs are going to have to add a pick to get a team to take Petry.

But the guy has been a solid and highly productive D man for years... and he regained his form somewhat under St. Louis. I get that we won't get the moon for him in a trade because of his contract status, but he is still a highly serviceable defenceman.

Exactly. However, we do have way too many picks this year. I hope he takes a page out of Bergy's book and trades some of them for picks in future years, making sure our cupboards stay perpetually stocked.

I hope he doesn't use them to trade up too often though, as I remember seeing a Travis Yost article detailing the %'s of drafting with multiple picks versus moving up and it rarely ever pays off.

and about the number of prospects, I don't think they have that many elite prospects right now to become a real problem, they do have some good dmen coming up but in terms of forwards and goalies it seems a bit thin.

Yeah, we have basically nothing of interest in the pipeline as far as forwards go. I reserve judgement on Kidney and Roy until I see what they can do at the AHL level, however their Draft+1 years at the CHL level are very promising.

Which is why I am shocked when you see people make ridiculous trade proposals for the 2OA from NJD, and then say 'They should pick Wright and Nemec'... Can we give ourselves a chance to draft some high end forwards, please? lmao

that is why teams will favor US college players, you have 4 years to sign them.

if he does want to play in MTL, I do hope he gets the chance if he does all the right things, would be welcomed change instead of just applying cancel culture and moving on.
