My prediction from 3 days ago:
This series will go at least 4 games.
Also, have the Pens been scouting Japan? The next Taro Tsujimoto is out there. - jmatchett383
Didn’t you post on the Flyers board at one point? Tired of watching losing hockey so you switched teams? |

Speaking of VAN, if the Pens are unable to keep Geno. I wonder what it would take to get Miller. - Rinosaur
More then it would be wise for the Penguins to trade right now |

Best part of this is RW thought he had this good idea but GMJR already beat him to the punch. Nice to see those two are on the same page. |

Not really much new, but this is from Friedman on the Pat MacAfee show:
(ON Malkin) The sticking point as Friedman added was that, “I just heard the money wasn’t close.” Which also fits narratives that the two sides remain at points with different views of what a “good contract” should be for the aging, oft-injured but still productive center. (Both sides agree to 3 years)
According to Friedman, there are still gaps to bridge in the ongoing Kris Letang negotiation as well. “I heard the issue there was [that] someone told me they thought about $1.25 million apart per year”. Friedman did not mention anything about the length of the contract, in a positive or negative way. |

1.25 isn’t much at all. Get it done. |

What if they’re offering 8.75m per year, you’d give him 10m? |

Personally, it will be very difficult as a fan if Malkin doesn't get re-signed. |

Pretty interesting he has more details than a lot of the local reporters.
For Malkin, I think they figure it out, but maybe not until he can talk to other teams. It just depends what Malkin wants in terms of non-$. A few years ago, he said he wanted to be the first Russian to win 4 Cups. I dont see a contender offering him big money. 3 years isnt ideal, but Id give it to him.
For Letang, if they are only $1.25M apart, get the damn deal signed. You just had Letang finish #7 in Norris voting. Get him resigned and lets move forward.
Shout out to Jarry for getting a 3rd place vote for the Vezina.

He's been posting in here as long as I can remember. I find it funny that non-Pens fans usually have problems with other non-Pens fans posting here when most of us dont care about it at all hahah |

I have probably been on this blog (and the one before RW took over) longer than most Pens fans but...yeah, how dare I post on a non-Flyers blog!!! |

I don't know about that....fvck that's tough...he has a horrible injury history. Last season was the 3rd most reg season games he ever played in a season...an outlier. For a cap strapped team an extra 1.25 mill is a lot but you cant replace him either. Tough call for me but kind of lean towards giving him it.

I'm kind of prepared for Tanger and Geno to go elsewhere, I wont be shocked...however what I wont be able to digest easily is if they take deals the Pens absolutely should of matched/signed them to. Hex's head on a stake if that happens with one or both of them. |

I am not prepared to see Letang go. Malkin... I just feel like it could be a John Tavares type situation where a star leaves a team and you think that it is going to crush them, but they actually end up a better team the next year. Don't get me wrong, I'd love it if he signed for a cheap deal but despite what he is saying about being willing to take a discount, I think the money side is more important to him than he lets on (can't hate him for that). I think his perception of a discount will be $8.7M and the Pens perception will be $6-7M.

Islanders being better had everything to do with replacing Weight with Trotz and having Tavares would have only helped them. |

I'm saying it may not matter what he does because the other side may just want to leave. They may not allow them to match either. |

And them wanting to leave is GMRHs responsibility. He gets all the blame so long as they don’t get massive contracts elsewhere. |

So in your mind what are contracts for both that the Pens should absolutely match? If, of course, they are given the opportunity? |

So phrased another way - what would be your plan to replace Letang instead of paying him that $1.25M?
There is no chance you compete next year without Letang. It's just a reality. You just got done paying Malkin $9.5M, you have plenty of cap room to sign Letang.
Letting your franchise dman, a guy who just finished 7th in the Norris voting, go over $1.25M is pretty stupid to me. |
