ah, not surprised tbh. GMs know he's better than what he showed last season.
do we know what teams? - fidopro
per Lebrun:
The Dallas Stars and Detroit Red Wings are among a handful of teams who have inquired about the availability of Montreal Canadiens blue-liner Jeff Petry, TSN's Pierre LeBrun reported on Friday's edition of "Insider Trading."
"(The) Dallas Stars are a team that has some interest in Jeff Petry, especially if they can't re-sign pending UFA John Klingberg," LeBrun said. "I can tell you right now there have been not been any talks with Klingberg of late. It looks like he's headed to the UFA market."
LeBrun continued: "I'm told Detroit is also a possible destination. Five or six teams have talked to Montreal recently about him."
he's clearly better than how he played last season (holy (frank) was he painful to watch lol) but his age and cap hit aren't all that enticing either. before that I've always liked him as a player, but his recent performances and obviously his comments about wanting to leave MTL made me want him gone ASAP. as long as he isn't traded to a close rival and starts putting insane numbers lol...

yeah, a bit surprised Dallas didn't trade for him at the tdl. they had a need for him and the cap space to do it.

DET doesn't make too much sense to me but I guess they must be looking for a puck-moving dman and are willing to take on Petry's cap hit and contract length.

I'm not too worried about his contract. he skates very well. we often saw him spend 1-2 minutes in OT at 3x3. he'll age well, no problem there imo.
his problem is above the shoulders.

agreed, it was pretty obvious that the situation was bothering him and he just couldn't get his poop together because of it. normally I wouldn't necessarily want him gone but keeping a guy that doesn't even want to be there would be just silly.
I don't like management deciding on their own. Yes it has been said the players will be spoken with, but that sounds like an attempt to placate the players.
No to Gally....... No to Suzuki..... Edmunson is an interesting option
Why not Anderson? He wants to be on the team long term, has the contract, has a ton of talent. Is he respected by the players? Does management like him? Regardless, my thought is putting the 'C' on him fixes the biggest weakness in his game, which is showing up with effort every game.

why, is the former getting too old, while the latter is still too young..?
concerning Anderson, I get the idea that giving him the C could pressure him in becoming more consistent with his level of effort from one game to another, but I think it's the wrong way of looking at it. if you find there are times where he isn't working hard enough then perhaps giving him the captaincy might not be such a good idea after all. in his case though I don't feel his inconsistency is necessarily due to a lack of motivation, and that giving him the C would solve this, but more a matter of managing his intensity more efficiently during games and throughout the season, so that he's able to sustain the same kind of effort night in night out. it's kind of the same situation with Gallagher, who will also need to make certain adjustments to his game...

A teams looking for an experienced D man would probably take him plus our second rounder for a late first rounder(20th for example…)
Once you got that pick, you can package that with the other one we have and trade for first rounder between 5 and 10…
Kind of a 2 step dance…. Or you keep those 2 picks and pick 2 decent players like Luneau and …

I do not see Gally being around when the youth in the system moves onto the Habs roster. I also do not see Suzuki in the role of Captain......clearly could be wrong on both views. I think Anderson is really dedicated to being on the Habs, and putting the 'C' on would take that dedication to a higher level, resulting in improvements across the board for him. It will be interesting to watch this play out.

it's going to be interesting indeed. there might not be one clear-cut candidate above everyone else but on the other hand this is in part because they have more than one potential option, which is definitely a good thing. as long as it's someone that is well respected by his teammates, and that actually wants to be captain and the responsibilities that come with it, I'll be fine with whoever they choose.

That is the thing, we are not in the room, so very difficult to know who is respected, who has the voice, who would be great but has no interest.....etc etc. I do not believe we see an answer until camp....too many possible changes ahead. I will trust the process, mainly because I have no choice, eh

well you could always make signs and organize a protest in front of the Bell centre so that your discontent against the new captain nomination can be heard. as a passionate habs fan living in a democratic society, it is 100% your right to do so.
