huh, I thought he was a bit younger... but yeah you might be right, still not a bad player to have if he can slot it as an emergency backup once in a while, as you mention.

Do like they did to Otto, pay them more than the average to play in the AHL, best way to keep those players around.

It's not my style but I'm not too optimistic about him.

He's already 26 and has yet to show to kind of consistancy (at least at the NHL level) that I like in a defenseman.

I think what we see is what we can expect of him, a borderline NHL player that could slot in for a short while but will make mistakes while he's there.

Like I said, a cheap 5-6-7, who did not seem like a liability and maybe has a bit more to show.

We have lots of kids on D coming up, and I would like to see a few of them progress in Laval (or wherever), not have them all in Montreal at the same time.

with the salary cap, wealthier teams should take advantage of situations like these. having a few solid players in the AHL that the younger guys can play with isn't a bad thing at all.

Fundamentally, I get what he is saying - you want to put a player in a place where they have the best chance to succeed.

But mostly I think.... Laval is the Habs development team, so develop player by putting them in a place where they can learn - regardless of win or losses.

Sounds like they are more scared to lose than to do what their actual job is... develop players.

Not really a good sign.

Houle said when the playoffs began that he spends the whole season with development in mind.

But when it comes to the playoffs, he's focused on winning.

to be fair though, it isn't like Roy has been with the team for very long, and it would be nice for the Rocket to win and continue their playoff run, even if there aren't currently a whole lot of top prospects on the roster.

it's the playoffs, it's all about winning. They were very clear when the playoffs started, they would put what they consider the best team possible on the ice. The coach knows more about his players than we do, I can assume they want to make sure they are solid on the defensive side first.

Roy was not a member of this team this year, only joined in the playoffs once he team was eliminated, I can see why the coach would trust more a player he knows well for a game 7

Again.

Development league.

But whatever.... guess they want to teach the kids how to sit in the stands.

Don't worry kid, the Habs won;t make the playoffs for another 3-4 years, you don't need to learn what that stuff.....

I think you're being a bit dramatic about the whole thing. I get what you're saying, the kid is talented but he's 18 and he isn't Sidney Crosby, I don't think it's so easy for him to adapt to a new league and linemates, in a playoff context where he hasn't played at all there during the season.

I'm sure Paquette will play such a large role in the Habs for the future, that he is worth their development time... I get it, different position, but that is fundamentally my point about using players that have potential on the Habs vs guys that are throw-aways..

It is almost like the Habs are so desperate for a win anywhere in their organization, that they will kinda look the other way if they can get a win.

yeah, I'd agree with what you're saying if they were literally using a bunch of AHL vets instead of top young prospects in order to win, but I don't think it's really the case right now.

I get that it can be a slow day on sports radio, but I'm sure even the RDS comments section would have better topic ideas than this.
