It falls to him.
The decision to bring in an external firm, let’s even say that they suggested Torts. The initial decision to use an outside source is a good one.
He needs to continue to try to take some control away from the men currently in charge. It’s long overdue. - FlyerFan3260
did they say to what extent the external firm was involved? Did they make the decision of who to hire? I assume they sourced candidates, scrubbed background etc, but where did their responsibility end?

Torts was sitting around this past season, if the Flyers really wanted him they could have hired him the same time they fired AV. If Torts was really your top target, why wait so long and go through the charade of interviewing all these candidates? bottom line for me is Fletcher had two great coaches gift-wrapped to him and he has completely dropped the ball on both, and is left now with someone he really doesn't want but at the same time cannot afford to also lose in order to preserve the image that the Flyers always get the high profile coach. - jd250

That doesn't make it a lazy hire. The Flyers wanted to wait until the off season and more candidates were available. Which included Trotz. Who the Flyers apparently offered the job to. You may not like the choice but that doesn't make it lazy. The Flyers apparently have interviewed numerous candidates multiple times.

Trotz turned down 7 million per. Any thoughts on that? - hello it's me 2050
Maybe he has a better offer somewhere else?

Torts was most likely not plan A and when they could not get A they went with B.

Just talked to a source close to hiring process:
During Torts last interview he said "I can't stand the Penguins and their organization, what bothers me most is those whiny, arrogant turds and their self entitlement attitudes. Only time I want the other team to block our shots is if it's with their frankenstein faces."
The Flyers offered him the job shortly after. - Glak18

There was an article linked on a previous page in the thread. You will find it very entertaining.
https://www.crossingbroad...a-as-next-head-coach.html - MJL
Im not seeing the same thing though. Not seeing anything about Fletcher being indecisive and relying on others. Im reading Scott went out, hired an agency to select the next coach and they picked Tortorella. The article states Fletcher was not high on Tortorella and that it sounds as if Scott is running the team not Fletcher. For a guy who vouched for Fletcher and kept him as the right guy, he's not exactly letting him make decisions.

The Flyers being run as a collective and Fletcher being a corroborator with others as a big reason why he was hired is well reported.

We can go back and forth about the coach all day but in the end it will be what happens with the roster and the draft?
Can they make a hockey trade to clear some cap and get more picks and maybe some youth? I think you could see a konecny dealt since you do have some wings that needs spots like Tippett, Allison(if healthy), Cates, Laughton, Lindblom.
Also I wonder if one of Laughton or Lindblom are moved. Not saying I want to but both come in at 3mil per year. Could one bring back a 2nd rounder this year or next in some sort of move.
JVR? Is there a deal out there if you retain money?
I think there are ways to clear salary. I don't think they need to be in UFA market unless for a cheaper 5-6 defensman to play with York.

100%, what happens with the roster? There’s a ton of bland in this lineup. Log jam of guys that are all average. I wouldn’t mind moving Laughton or Lindblom. I would think they will be some of Torts favorites tho. |

Some moves I would like to see happen:
- trade for Kapanen
- trade for Armia (Laughton?)
- trade TK for dman or 1st round + prospect
- sign Copp as UFA
- move JVR even with 50% retainage
- trade for Simmonds - mid / late pick with adder
- resign G is team friendly deal is there

more in favor of moving Lindblom, for some needed skating, though I like Lindblom. Only would move Laughton if it really was a step up, maybe part of a bigger package.

Kasperi Kapanen is awful. Why do we need to overpay for another average UFA player (Copp)? Laughton is a better player than Armia. Simmonds for what? Flyers have a bunch of young player for the bottom 6 that are ready to break in. Giroux is not coming back
I give your plan

With the names of the potential coaches ( though not necessarily interviewed) including Montgomery with his past issues and Tocchet with a conviction for running a numbers ring, maybe the consulting firms input was ( as someone else alluded to way back in the thread) keeping the team clean of off ice issues.
If they were only that thorough in the process to correctly evaluate & avoid players who were not damaged goods or had latent medical issues in the draft or through trades... cough cough nudge nudge wink wink say no more say no more |

The only thing we can do is use GUILE to win trades and shuffle money around to similar but different players
How that scenario leads to a successful team, led by this group, is anyone's guess. |
