Just cant see Torts coming here agreeing to a lets play our youth mantra.

Then again no other team I dont think even interviewed him so....easy paycheck. Signs 5 year deal knows will be fired after 3!!!!

- hello it's me 2050

So the over under is 3 years.
My bet 2, he goes when Cliffs son is fired.

Why does Frosty keep getting singled out lol
- Tomahawk

Media put too high expectations on him and they bought it.

some in the organization expressing concern that the leadership level on the hockey ops side isn’t up to snuff and that Fletcher is too fickle as a GM and has a hard time making decisions on his own without considerable input from multiple people

If Torts is here longer than 3 years than things are going good.

I am pretty much in agreement with you here. What happens to torts when chuckles gets canned? It will be a revolving door until they just bottom out and change organizational thinking
- corduroy

If the speculation is to be believed, nothing will happen to JT if/when CF is removed as he wasn't involved in that hiring.

The pressers should be All time.

I don’t think anyone is questioning him as a coach, nor should they be. The timing is just wrong.

Absolute spot on 💯.

If Tortaloony was available, say, during the Hakstol years, that would have been great. Would have him over AV. But definitely not now.

Cheers 🍻 to picking 12th.

Just talked to a source close to hiring process:

During Torts last interview he said "I can't stand the Penguins and their organization, what bothers me most is those whiny, arrogant turds and their self entitlement attitudes. Only time I want the other team to block our shots is if it's with their frankenstein faces."

The Flyers offered him the job shortly after.

Because of all the bad losses that will precede them.

to be fair to Chuckles, the last GM was criticized for not taking enough input.

Hak was a developmental coach. Like John Stevens. He's supposed to be laying the groundwork and eventually somebody like Torts comes in and takes them over the top once the players are good enough.

Flyers have things ass backwards as usual. Firing the developmental coach while the team is still young. Then turning one of the youngest teams in the league into one of the oldest over the course of two summers... while pretending like AV and Torts are somehow gonna be able to turn this toad into a prince.

- Tomahawk

This sums it up. Sad.

Ha! I was just thinking the same thing…could you imagine him laying down the law to Jake? The timing doesn’t seem like the best considering where this team is. One positive I will say is that it’s never bad to have someone come in and instill some discipline and better defensive structure to a group that’s clearly lacking in it.

Well, if the team isn't entertaining the press conference should be a reason to watch.

I really like Torts as a coach.. and having meet him a couple times.. he's a great guy...

His style though is not really built for young teams. See his comments on Z's goal.

I will say this... Flyers will check and check and play hard every shift..

For all the talk of Hakstol developing players, he still has to effectively coach. That team he got fired from in 18-19 was a complete mess with no accountability. I can’t necessarily get on the management for firing Hakstol when they did.

A developmental coach who played MacDonald, Manning, Lehtera and VdV over young players. All four guys were out of the league soon after Hak got fired.

I agree. He's going to squeeze every ounce of hockey out of these guys. If not, they sit.

I'm interested in seeing how Konecny does. He might be what we hoped he'd become under Torts.

Will Ristolainen have a good season for the first time in his almost 10 year NHL career?

and far above the shelf life Flyers have for coaches.

Fred Shero's the only coach in Flyers history to stick around longer than 4 seasons. Flyers have always changed coaches like underwear. Torts will not be here for long.
