Based on the cap situation, I doubt there’s much he can do except make changes at the margins. If that ends up being the case, his talk of an “aggressive retool” will have been nothing but bluster.

I agree. There's not much we can do besides add a role player or 2. I think they will be banking on the coaching change, that the kids will improve, and the hopes that Coots, Ellis, etc will be healthy. I am not saying I agree with their approach, but it seems as if they will go that way.

Unfortunately, whether we agree or not, the goal of the org and powers that be will be to make the playoffs so they can sell more tickets, merch, etc. We can complain all we want, but unless there is a complete overall with the front office, that early pick is not going to happen.

Agreed! It is both sad and embarrassing. I have friends who were Flyers fans like me their whole lives but the past few years will rarely watch a game during the regular season. They will, however, watch the playoffs no matter who is playing. I don't watch every game but still watch 60 or so a year. It's sad to think how low this franchise has fallen.

This past season was the first I could honestly say I truly didn’t care. The second half of the season I don’t think I watched one full game.

Even during the lean years early on in the Hextall era, there was the perception they were at least building and progressing by stocking up the farm….there was something to hope for.

I can’t say that I have that same level of optimism anymore. I’m tired of the mediocrity…it’s time this organization recognizes where it is and tear this down proper.

I don’t think the Flyers are a dying franchise, but the bloom is certainly off the rose. This was a franchise that had prestige and luster in the city, built up through decades of sustained success. They’ve now squandered it after a decade of spinning in their wheels.

In just the last few seasons, they’ve fired two coaches and one general manager in mid season and his replacement GM is on thin ice. One of the greatest and most tenured players in franchise history just left having won one playoff series since becoming captain. It’s been a very dispiriting decade of hockey.
