Caleb Jones $2,250,000, no way
- BetweenTheDots

He’ll likely get $1.5 - $2.0 million. A comparable could be Jeremy Lauzon, he just re-signed with the Preds for 4 years @ $2 million AAV.

I’d re-sign C Jones for 2 years @ $1.5 AAV.

The Blackhawks could easily play hardball with their less secure bottom defenders because they can use the youth movement as the hedge in negotiations, but it is Seth's brother their new first pair defender, so me thinks they do not piss him off with any "it's just business..." answers when he call to ask why his brother walked....

This is weird, couple weeks ago people were asking for 16 for Murphy. Now it's like you guys just want to get rid of him. Is there more to this story than is being told.

Nothing besides the Chicago board hates all $4-5M players.

He is a board pin cushion. He was traded for a declining Hjarmalsson, but gets compared to him when he was in his prime. He is what he is. Can log a lot of minutes, can play against top lines, kill penalties. Not good on zone exits. Prone to the occasional brain fart. In today’s NHL, his salary is about right.

We are just shooting the ideas around

causal fan note:Buffalo has #9 , #16, and #28

Mine is that Davidson would prefer pick #9 because he knows after #12, he doesn't get the type of quality he wants at that slot, and #13 slots on match pretty close to the #16 overall, but you just have to settle that you don't get the real guy you want unless luck befalls you.

I love all the USA Developmental players available at #16 overall, but again I see as many gambles in the slots from #16 on all the way to Buffalo's 3rd first rounder at #28. So no sure things, kinks in their armor, and high water marks in the pro start to be gambling projections.

I think of this draft as one where the Blackhawks focus is on the reality their pick at #38, and they probably have scouted most of the guys on my board from #27 -38, and know who their favorite(s) are....
It would be nice to select the best of the rest from the leftovers of #28-38.

So, I could see them offering something to #28

This scouting has been done thoroughly so get the best guy on your board @ 28 and then whoever is left on their board at #38.

Buffalo has three picks and unless they plan to barter two of them to move up higher than their one in the #16 slot...In other words, #28 & #16 to move to to slot 6 or 7 using the NHL Draft value chart..., but you know what? I am thinking even in this wonky draft year neither Columbus or Ottawa wants out of slot #6 or #7 respectively for what's left mid-draft...
And there's no deal if they don't want out of the slots.

Now, next year, maybe they would think long and hard on it.

Even nowadays, teams rarely enjoy bringing in three first rounders, because many times their second / third contracts negotiate at the same years and the first rounders expect more than bridge deals, and it complicates teams even a Buffalo so usually ten like two chances in the first. (no matter if you draft (Dach) each at #3, 16, 28 overall ,he still desires the same consideration you were thinking when you made the pick-->his promise.
Same with these three buffalo draftees.
New Jersey drafted three first rounders in 2020, but one was looked at as a guy coming later (Shakir Mukhamadullin) who wasn't in the similar negotiation cycle....Same with 2018 Rangers had a Russian third pick who may have seen the last of,Vitali Kravtsov

I see four guys who are blossoming there in Buffalo now who are not gonna want a pittance right now, so this is just another thing to think about having three.

They could, but I doubt they will. C Jones wasn’t great, but he can be a serviceable #6/#7 defenseman. The Hawks will give the young d-men plenty of opportunity in 22/23, namely Mitchell, Regula and Galvas. Maybe Vlasic gets time too, but I’m expecting to see him in Rockford next season. C Jones can be the veteran d-man to slot in and out of the lineup as the youngsters need a night off.

#28 for Murphy would be fair, or #16 for Murphy and #57.

I live to think the Blackhawks were a team that would be in on

a Anderson, or Pulivarri, but we don't need to pay out the posterior with youth to get youth and D'Cat isn't going to Montreal or Edmonton, right?

again, everyone, take breath read the top 38 players profiles, click and scroll down to the scouyting reports,

and tell me who we want to drop in to Chicago in slot #38, the only certainty we can comment on....

Haven't read them all but am wondering if Ostlund or Firkus would fall into the 2nd due to smurfiness, just like DeBrincat did. Profiles sound good for those two.

They could fall to the 2nd round and I was wondering about Lambert too, can he be this year’s Raty?

New blog! Thoughts on the impact of Duncan Keith's recapture penalty on the Blackhawks salary cap.

Plus, an early look at ones to watch during prospect exhibitions this summer.
