Hey Wiz. With so many of the prospects missing/losing time on the ice, do you expect that older players (20 vs 18-19) (with more extensive tape) get chosen earlier than the younger ones? - Chunk
Good question? A statistic the FO probably has is how many 20 year old's make it to the NHL? Just because you don't know which 18/19's to draft doesn't mean the normal amount won't end up beating out the 20's in the end... |

Oilers G Koskinen signs two-year deal in Switzerland. - LAHawk
I read on the inter web that the Hawks are interested in acquiring Gibson from Anaheim.

Strome is NOT a 1st line center and how are you going to be bad enough to get to Bedard? You rolling out Delia 82 games a year?
They need to be all time bad to get Bedard and they'll likely have some company trying to get there. - SteveRain
Did you watch the games after Fluery was traded?
Hawks easily could be worst team in the league next year |

I guess he smells what the Holland got cooking...and it isn't Mikko thumb stuck in their dyke.... - wiz1901
He has to be thinking if they'd rather play Mike Smith then that tells him all he needs to know.

Even if they Hawks are the worst team in the league it is far from guaranteed that they get to draft him. Last I checked, since the lottery was started the worst team has only gotten the first pick about 50% of the time. |

There are three very good prospects in 2023 and other than being From Russia, Michkov is right there with Bedard. And Adam Fantilli isn’t far behind those two. |

Interesting. Who coaches the prospects if there isn't a coaching staff in place by then? - Chunk
Typically the IceHogs coaches help conduct the prospects camp so would imagine Anders Sorensen is going to play a key role.
There are also the development coaches like Kendall Coyne Schofield, Brian Campbell, Chris Kunitz, Erik Condra, Yanic Perreault, etc. |

No the second and third year eligibles usually go at an equal pace after the mid second round starts...
The younger guys fill the beginning of the draft and continuing being selected to the end even if they have little paint on their canvasses....
Last year just adds to mix up the 32 teams draft lists with more chance of one team gaining an undrafted guy they truly thought should have gone earlier and also it could work in reverse where guys go flying off a team's list that they were sure mid rangers (and other teams loved them and ate them up early.) |

Thanks for another interesting topic Theo. I would not take calls on Dach unless as you say at least two top assets for the rebuild are on offer. Would rather keep him and let him understudy with Toews for another year. Although contract demands are another potential issue.
Still like the lines:
Debrincat - Strome - Kane
Reichel - Toews - Dach
for at least the start of next season.
Also from last blog, next to last post - Husso could be a good signing, and also a 2nd-3rd round goalie pick sounds good to add depth.
Will stop repeating myself now - or maybe not. - totem
You bet, totem. Doing what I can to put some topics out in the blogosphere, at least put a different spin on some recurring ones.
For those top 2 lines, I have a feeling that at least 2 of those forwards are no longer with the Hawks and maybe an entire line is gone.
Pretending for a second that DeBrincat and Strome are gone, the leaves Kane without who I imagine would be his preferred linemates.
Would that force Kane's hand to request a trade? Similar with Toews?
If Davidson goes full nuclear, that top 6 could be something like:
Reichel - Dach - T Johnson
Kurashev - Borgstrom - Raddysh
Yikes.
This also assumes Kubalik has a new home and both Kurashev (RFA) and Borgstrom (one year left) remain.
But, another pivotal factor is who comes back in those nuclear trades of DeBrincat, Kane, and/or Toews. That top 6 will be replenished to some degree. |

It would be nice to hear some offers being made Theo, but all you hear is how teams are interested. So naturally teams are seeing if they could fleece KD and then they get sticker shock. Walking away saying damn inflation is everywhere.

I would guess that if any major moves are made, they will happen right before or at the draft. It will be interesting to watch it unfold. - Chunk
It sure will. I mean i can't imagine KD is going to settle for anything less than 2 first round picks unprotected, 2nd round pick and young promising pro. That would give us 5 first round picks total in 2023 and 24? And another 2nd in 22 or 23?
Is that even enough for a kid who's durable and since the 2017-18 season he's top 10 goal scorer in the NHL |

I understand the Hagel trade, but i just don't see a winning org who's cash strapped, since they usually are, and Cat is going to make at least $9 mil his next contract per year, trading 2 first round picks, 2nd round pick and quality young prospects.
NJ ain't gonna do it either or Buffalo, cause they still suck, and any team that still sucks is not going to give you their 1st round pick next year. - BetweenTheDots
Wrong-o buckaroo! All buffalos gotta do is protect the pick if it’s top 10 in ‘23 and defer it to the 2109 draft.
It can happen, Buffalos always been suckered into conditional terms on 1st rounder’s received.

KD says he wants the Hawks to play fast and faster, I don't think Strome fits that model. - LAHawk
This, in a nutsehll, is my problem with KD ... he appears to think he is the smartest guy in the room, and is talking common sense.
Fact is, that he ought to want his team to play so that they have more goals at the end of regulation than the other team. End of story. All the rest of this is smoke and mirrors. |

Doesn't that describe pretty much every GM in any sport? Think I'll give Davidson at least the opportunity to screw up the draft before laying the groundwork for the eventual airing of grievances. |
