They are likely going to need acquire that type of player through the draft. Either getting a consensus top player by being awful AND/OR hitting later on because you have a proven hockey ops who can find those type of players.
The latter to me is playing with fire because as of recently hawks havent had some big hits and have missed on a lot of top picks as well.
This board is going to melt to the ground when they trade ADB because a team like NJ or Ottawa is going to give Davidson what he wants back. - SteveRain
But technically i know the Blackhawks were in a perpetual rebuild but Kane and Toews pretty much came after the Blackhawks had a lot of their talent in the farm system. Then they went out and got the last piece in Marian.
I meant to bold your top paragraph |

Seravalli said on his podccast that the rebuild will take 5,6,7 years and anyone on this team, with exception of Kane, Jones (because of his contract) and possibly Dach won't be around when the team is good again. He didn't cite any sources and I'm sure it's just his opinion.
That's why he thinks Debrincat will be traded. He's 24 and will be 30 by the time the team is good again, and in the meantime he'll be paid huge bucks for playing on a bad team. - boilermaker100
I feel strongly if it takes 6-7 years (to be competitive needle pointing up) KD won't be around. |

On the flip side what if we win the lotto next year?
What if Bedard is a generational talent? And you traded all your young nhl talent away. |

What if the year after you have
Cat Strome Kane
Dach Bedard Reichel
Looks weird not having Toews in there. Kind of sad |

A more favorable deal to consider would be packaging Dach to another team to bring back at least two of a high draft pick, blue chip prospect, and/or current roster player who can play at a top 6 forward level or top 4 defense level.
The old Schmaltz, Strome, Perlini play, no thanks. - rpeters01
Nobody in the NHL is making that trade for Kirby Dach by himself. Packaged with DeBrincat? Sure....but that's about it. |

Strome is NOT a 1st line center and how are you going to be bad enough to get to Bedard? You rolling out Delia 82 games a year?
They need to be all time bad to get Bedard and they'll likely have some company trying to get there. |

Analytically that line held its own against opponents while playing together
So if Strome isn't a 1st line center than we should have no problem losing a ton of games next year and be in position for a top 3 pick |

You must be confusing the Hawks talent pipeline with Kings. Wings, Ducks, Sabre's etc. The Hawks do not have much NHL talent on the farm. The pipeline is short and not very good.

What if you traded DeBrincat to NJ and got back this year's 2nd overall PLUS another 1st next year and other pieces....
You could have Slafkovsky, 3 1sts next year, and suck and have a good chance to get Bedard and at worst case have a top pick, a mid level pick (NJ) and likely a lower pick (TB) and add 3 pretty good prospects.
They need to rebuild through the draft and get a core that can come up to play together all at once. Save a TON OF cap room and then add a monster UFA at position they don't have already filled through trades, drafts, etc....... |

Right so if you trade Cat, Dach, Strome you trade all your young NHL talent away |

You have 1 PROVEN NHL young talent in that group of 3....DeBrincat.
Dach is far from NHL talent at this point....at best it's undecided
Strome is a roller coaster of inconsistency and if Strome was such a sure thing why haven't the Hawks extended him after he did so well so analytically last year? Think they have some valid concerns about this kid's play like Arizona before them?
All signs posting to the Hawks not bringing him back..... |

They need to be all-time luck to get Bedard. Coming in dead last only guarantees you a spot in the top 3. Even if you are the worst team in the league, there's still a 75% chance you don't pick #1. |

So i guess Laine isn't going back to Columbus or DuBois to Peg and so on and so on and so on.
I really liked Dach as well to bad they aren't going to offer sheet him as well |

I don't know about the other 2 but all I have read since the season ended is how Strome is "likely" to not be returning to the Hawks. And those articles from his biggest cheerleaders in the media like Pope and lazerus.
DuBois got a 2 year deal of around 5 aav and he's been far from good in the peg
Laine had a pretty good year.....
I don't think any team would trade Strome straight up for either. Especially Laine.

I dont believe many, if any, GMs who start a rebuild are there when the team gets good...owners/upper management usually run out of patience...unless your Dave Poile. |

KD says he wants the Hawks to play fast and faster, I don't think Strome fits that model.

Those same reporters who haven't been able to corner McDonough? When i hear all these reports in the offseason they sound like the teacher on the Charlie Brown series, whole lotta nothing |

100%....Have a feeling we are going to see a copy cat transition to the Avalanche model....SHould be a great cup final. Avs got to the final a loss less than what I figured......
Really going to be something if Tampa can skate with them and check their forwards, then how Kuemper holds up as 88 will 100% be a factor for Tampa in a good way. Hope Avs win, but I think Tampa 3 peats. Goalie position is going to haunt Sakic. |

I get it you like Strome...fair enough. I think he's way too inconsistent to make any sort of financial commitment to and if he werent' skating with top end skill guys, he's a turd. Slow, doesn't engage away from the puck, rarely wins a board battle.....just meh.
We will see if the Hawks bring him back. |

Speaking of stupid GM's.
What would you hawk fans want from Ottawa for Seth Jones. We were attempting to debate the price in the Ottawa forum...lol...some skewd lenses on what his value is. - Octavarium
2nd round pick and prospect plus most likely a bad contract coming back to offset the cap hit. |
