It’s clear who is running this team.

That “bully mentality”, is most certainly on display.

They can all go (frank) off as far as I am concerned. Go sign some autographs, and stop destroying this team.

All for Torts, We have been an underachieving team for many years, MANY. The idea of a coach who brings out a team effort and gets the most out of the group is something we've not had in too long. Hitchcock was great at getting the buy in, though it didn't last, Stephens pushed it a bit but overall a hard nosed jerk might be good There is some talent on this team, some holes to fill but with no superstars we're a similar team now to what Columbus had under Torts, and he got them some record seasons.

So many coaches available, a chance for a real change in things.

These morons are going to go with Torts, and some bullpoop aggressive retool.

It’s just disgusting. Behind the times, is a phrase that’s so appropriate.

It’s just that I always wanted to punch torts in the face since his Tampa days.

It’s really a great move on the PR part. The second things falter, an already edgy fanbase will be more than ready to turn away further.

The lack of awareness of this fact is pathetic. After Quenville, it’s the most abrasive decision. I’m sure Clarke will be more than thrilled.

What has Ted Nolan done to management to keep him from ever being discussed as a possible candidate? Why is he blackballed?

Might as well.

There will be those who will cheerlead the effort of a first round loss.

I don’t understand this team, the ego is so large that it blinds them to how stupid the are.

didn't torts replace AV in Vancouver? Then AV replace him in NY?

Not ego imo, just an old archaic approach. That they think still works. Despite the sad results.

How many Vezina winners have done it without a solid defensive structure around them? Very few.

I'm not even a huge Torts guy. But to say he's been anything but a successful NHL coach is downright foolish.

- bmeltzer

Ok so you have all the excuses why he’s been successful despite what his actual record shows over the past 15 years. My opinion makes me a fool so there’s nothing else to be said. Sorry to see you sink to that level but insults are pretty much par for the course on this site. Have a great day Bill.

I guess it's how you define success. There are a lot of 3rd, 4th and 5th place finishes on Tort's resume. Yes Columbus had that upset in 1 playoff series, but overall Torts has been living off his one Cup run with Tampa his entire career. If Torts was the best available candidate then maybe I would be more open to his coaching the Flyers, but given Trotz and Cassidy are available, if the Flyers end up with Torts or even a lesser coach I would label that a complete failure for Fletcher and his executive team.

Do you think Darvin Ham will turn it around for the Lakers? Yankees with a sizeable in the AL East. Will they win the penant this year?

An interesting, yet conflicting article from Carchidi today:

https://phillyhockeynow.c...y-rebuild-chuck-fletcher/

One one hand he states its time for the Flyers to trade Provorov and/or Konecny to the Devils or Columbus and get their top 1st round picks in the draft, go young with the hire of a new veteran coach to teach them. Then he points out that the Flyers can't develop players and compares the stagnation of the Flyers players to the growth or players like McAvoy and Aho. So the Flyers going the route of drafting high only works if they are confident they can develop the players once drafted, and their track record over the past 10 years is not great. Still I would be fine with this approach given Fletcher at least stated he has invested heavily on player development over the past year. What do you all think?

Bill, do you get any sense that Flyers management would be willing to go down the tear-down route if things go sideways again next season? My sense is that they’re reluctant to do that. I just think trying to patch the roster with another high-priced FA is at best a band-aid under an “aggressive re-tool” and the issues run deeper. Thanks
- Sublime55

If the Flyers go sideways next season, I believe you will see Fletcher gone and a complete overhaul underway.

Bill,
you don't have yo go on the defense of your statements. This board will not be happy with any coach the Flyers choose. I don't think Shero and Bowman would have passed staunch criticism here.

And as well as you are, I am not a Torts guy.

This I think most agree with. If he goes for a do over from last summer and it fails he should be gone.

The only counter to that I would present to you is that a complete rebuild (not what Hexy did) isn’t something that Flyers management would entertain, based on precedent. I could see a scenario where Comcast isn’t willing to take a multi year hit to ratings and attendance for that goal.

The Flyers haven’t drafted a hall of fame level talent in over 25 years since Giroux in 2006.
- psuhockey

15 years, I think you mean?

- PT21

either that, or he's posting from 10 years in the future; the latter which obviously doesn't bode well for the next 10 years of drafting...
