Yes, it is a crazy idea to trade the 2OA pick for that haul. Nothing against those players, but NJ needs a winger who can score regularly. We’re hoping we can use the pick for a guy like Nylander, Tchachuk (Calgary) etc. why wait 2-3 years for the 2OA to be NHL ready when you can slot a top liner next season.

For the right player(s), I would trade the pick but not for what you proposed.

I don't see many teams trading a 1,2,3 pick overall. Unless its a horrible draft. Its always talked about but rarely ever happens

Okay, I don't post here very often (although I read all the time), but this seems like a good time to chime in. Yeah, obviously this is disappointing, but let's all remember that this is really the beginning of the window, not the end. This is a team that hadn't made the (real) playoffs in several years and wasn't necessarily expected to this year. Yeah, it's tough to get so far (and therefore close to the Cup) and then lose, but would any of you rather have avoided this by losing to Pittsburgh in the first round?

Well, they did not, and therefore the kids, especially, got a great taste of playoff hockey. All of this having been said, let's not kid ourselves -- this team is still a work in progress. In ALL of these series, even those they won, they gave up WAY too many chances. But that's another benefit of a long playoff run -- it gave Drury a lot of feedback on where this team is, and hopefully insight into what he needs to do to make it better.

And, by the way, do you any of you REALLY think they could have beaten Colorado? Part of me obviously thinks it would have been fun to watch them play in the Finals, but another part thinks that to get that close and then lose would have been even more agonizing. In a strange way, I think that this outcome is kind of a good compromise, in that it's not like the feeling of failure of getting wiped out in the first round, but also not like they were about to hoist the Cup but let it slip away.

PS. And don't forget that they still have Brennan Othmann on the horizon, so it's possible that in terms of kids with potential, the best is actually yet to come.

The problem with the Rangers 5v5 is that theyre incredibly sloppy with the puck. They need to clean up their zone entry play, which Ive been saying for what feels like years now. They need to simplify it. Too many cross ice passes. Too many turnovers in the offensive zone because of low quality passing.

If they played the way they played GM6 and 7 vs Carolina, with Shesty in net, I give the Rangers a decent chance at beating Colorado.

My off-season:

Trade Nils Lundkvist

to Mtl for Ryan Poehling. Or to Edm for Ryan McLeod

They need a better bottom 6 still. Dump Rooney. McLeod and Poehling are both natural centers who are better players for the 4th line than Rooney is. Big and young too. Not limited to those 2, but trade Nils for a bottom 6 center who can be part of the core. Center depth is of the upmost importance this summer, over anything else imo. If they need to sweeten a deal that’s fine too

Promote Jones and Robertson into 6 and 7 D man roles to play with Schneider

Dump Nemeth for cap savings. Braun can go to another team. Chychrun would be great but I’m not sure they really need to do that anymore

Sign Vatrano and Motte

Both are absolute gamers. Every game every shift they give their all. Vatrano looks like a natural fit for Kreider and Zib. I realize he could be getting a nice payday, but maybe he’ll wait a year to really hit it big and he can score 30 on that line. I’d love a one yr deal as I think this could benefit Wheels as a springboard to a multi year deal after it. It’s probably wishful thinking on my part, but man I’d be thrilled to have Wheels back. Motte..must be re-signed. I don’t see any reason why they won’t. He’s a perfect fit for them right now. 2-3 yrs, 2.5 AVV

Trade Georgy

for anything really. I just want him off the team lol. He sucks and when he’s in there I feel like we have no chance to win the game. They don’t need to pay the backup anything over a million bucks

Try to get back into the first rd at the draft

Unlikely and more wishful thinking, but maybe unload some pieces (ie-Gauthier, Georgy, prospects) and see if they can get a first round pick they lost in the Copp trade

Name a god damn captain

Idc who just someone have the C. They need one

Last one, if possible sign Patrice Bergeron

I see things where hes said Boston or retirement. Probably true (that was before Cassidy got fired) but it doesn’t mean they shouldn’t try to talk to him. You couldn’t hand pick a better addition for this team right now at this time. Maybe Drury can pull out some magic like he does and sway him to join the rangers to help us win a cup or two. It obviously needs to work with the cap. I get that it’s unlikely but I really think he’d be the last piece for a couple of years. Fall back would be Jonathan Toews (with money retained)
———————-
Kreider Zib Wheels
Panarin Bergeron Kravtsov
Laf Chytil Kakko
Motte Goodrow Blais
**extras- Poehling/McLeod/Hunt/Reaves/JBrod/Gauthier

Lindgren - Fox
Miller - Trouba
Jones/Robertson - Schneider

They don’t need or should they go nuts over the summer. No panic moves or anything like that. Peripheral moves, tweaks, adjustments. They are on a collision course with the SCF and it’s just a matter of when it will happen imo

Can’t wait for next year already

Well, we'll never know for sure, but I didn't see too many Nathan McKinnons on Carolina, and as Rangers fans should know, I certainly don't think of Brady Skjei or Tony D'Angelo as Cale Makar. So, I think it would have been a fairly rough series for them. But, again, we'll never know.

I’m with you on the Avs crushing us. They’ve lost two games all playoffs long. They’re unbeaten on the road and have like a +20 goals for or something like that. The LA series was bad, and I think it would’ve been much worse. I’m not sure TB can even beat them

Makar is the best player in the league right now. Hopefully we’re the Avs of like 5 yrs ago. Rangers aren’t ready to beat them just yet

I’m not making a big deal of it, but in the future Shesty has to save that first goal last night. He just has to. To me it tarnished his whole game last night letting that in. Break in concentration or whatever it was, it cannot happen in that spot. We can’t score as it is now we need two? Felt like the game was already over there

As great as he was last night, and the playoffs, he can let in the softy at the worst possible time.

Right, so this way we're spared having to watch them get to the Finals just to lose, and, for whatever it's worth, they get just a bit more rest before next season (and less chance for injuries to get worse). Again, not like I would have been complaining if we beat Tampa! But I just don't think it was like "there goes the Cup."

I'm also thinking that Tampa's run comes to an end against the Avs. Kind of like the Islanders getting to the finals a fifth straight year but then losing to Edmonton.

If TB wins this series I think they’re the best team of all time. To do it in this cap area again, against this team would be remarkable. They haven’t faced anything like they’re about to in these 3 years

Agreed. Right, that's not an issue Edmonton had to face. Had there been a salary cap back then, no way they keep that team together for long.

I agree with most of this.

1. We need to trade Nils, however, I would ideally try to trade him for a 1st round pick. This may be the easiest of routes in terms of getting back into the 1st round.

2. Ive been a fan of the Robertson/Schneider pairing since the beginning of the season. Id love to see it materialize. They obviously need to dump Nemeth and dont need Braun.

3. They absolutely would love to resign Vatrano and Motte. But I also think they need to resign Copp as well (forget Bergeron, hes not leaving Boston even if he decides to play one more year). My concern with Vatrano is that someone might pay him, making very difficult for us to keep him.

4. Yep, Georgy needs to be traded. Scott Wedgewood is a UFA, I think he did pretty good in Dallas, and would be a solid cheap backup.

Following up on that, heres how Id like to see the lineups...

LAF, Ziba, Kakko
Panarin, ______, ______
Kreider, Copp, Vatrano
Blais, Goodrow, Motte

Yes, Kreider on the 3rd line at even strength. Ive said it before and Ill say it again, his style of play would be successful anywhere in the line up. Kreider would obviously still be on the 1PP.

Personally, Id try to sell high on Chytil but I wouldnt trade him for the sake of trading him.

We need upgrades on the second line.

No shame in the Rags game. They gave the champs a scare. 2-0 lead in the series, 2-0 lead in the game and 30 mins from putting the Lightning in their coffin. The president's trophy Panthers couldn't come close.

Shesterkin is for real. Fox, Zib, Kreider, Breadman. The pieces are there to build on and the Rangers are going to be contenders for a long time.

GG's head-scratching coaching, Trouba being Trouba, bad puck luck, and poop officiating didn't help things. But, once Tampa got rolling and Vasi got dialed in, it's like walking into a buzzsaw. Tampa has multiple hall of famers on their roster and the Rags were 30 minutes from burying them. That's not nothing.

Sucks for a deep run to end in disappointment, but it demonstrated progress and I would be hopeful if I was a Rangers fan.

I’m not trying to minimize Vasy, but they play more team defense then Vasy does individually. He very rarely had to make a ridiculous save. I mean he’s intimidating lol but I feel like their D corp or system doesn’t get enough credit when they win like they do. They give you nothing, literally all game. The PP is the only offense we could muster after the rust went away

Cooper has a legitimate system. The fact that gallant doesn’t was a problem in the playoffs. Quinn is a worse coach than gallant but the rangers were better 5v5 under him. He has to fix this next year. The roster has too much talent

Like i said before, “pretenders”

Hard to win a Cup relying that heaving on your goaltender & not being able to consistently put the puck in the net

Rangers are gonna need to score more if they want a legit chance to go all the way
