Yeah, when they signed him I remember thinking that's ok, he's a tradeable commodity. Then he went downhill. Not sure what we will have to include to sweeten the pot, but I don't care. Pay the price with picks or prospects that are unlikely to see time on Broadway and move on.

I don’t understand why GMs sign or trade for bigger slower defensemen. The game is so fast now and they are so easily exposed

I'm holding out hope he pulls a Naslund and retires back to Sweden.

Because you don't want to see your smaller, more mobile, more skilled defenseman diving in front of 100mph slap shots again and again!!
It's just that it's hard to tell when bigger and slower is going to turn into big and too slow.

i strongly believe we need a center who can win important faceoffs and he is not currently on the roster

I meant bottom pair guys more or less. Some guys have different abilities. Nemeth is just like Herman Munster out there

Buffalo just traded for Bishop so they could get to cap floor, that's how they are using it

I’m not at all interested in Giroux. To much money, to old, and has never won a thing in the NHL

A reliable faceoff man doesn’t have to be the 2C. It can most definitely be the 3C or 4C. There are plenty of guys out there to fit that role. Ideally they get a Jordan Staal clone. Defensively sound/shutdown/matchup guy, faceoff monster and can get 15-20 goals. Needs to be 25 yrs old or under imo also

That’s who I’d trade Kakko for. On paper may not be a better player that we get, but I’m not to worried about that. This is a desperate need they have as we saw all season.

Maybe they would like Nemeth and Reaves, guys who actually play to be on the roster instead. I doubt it since they are cheap AF but the Rangers need to get creative.

I will have a mutiny if they trade Kakko for a 3/4C.

Not trying to be a penis, but how many of those exist do you think? And of that miniscule number, how many are available this summer?
Easier said than done.

I’m just not seeing it with him. I think we have not a bust, but not nearly the guy we thought we had. Idk what to make of him right now. He wasn’t scratched for the hell of it

If you told me we could get Jordan Staal in his early days for Kakko now, I’d do it.

they get insurance money back for Bishop because he's hurt, it's real cheapskate stuff

For sure. They need that Tampa LTIR solution. Get Shea Weber in here.

Right. But, I am here telling you that we can't get a Jordan Staal for Kakko. Maybe if you can find a way to get Chiarelli a job back in the league somewhere.
Personally I think of it this way, we do not have a bust. We have the 2OA pick of a draft class that looks to be showing it was fairly weak. Doesn't mean that we have to hold on to him forever, but it also doesn't mean the organization made any sort of mistake by selecting him. It's just another illustration that this is real life and you can't know what the future will bring.

some of the bonuses on the entry level contracts of the young players are very different

like Nils Lundkvist and Brennan Othmann much higher than Zac Jones and Cuylle for instance

like if Lundkvist made the team and reached all the triggers he's essentially a 2 million dollar contract, while Zac Jones can only be 1 million tops no matter what, as an example

It might have to be another guy trying to prove himself. Maybe like Hayton from the Yotes.

I agree you’re not getting someone established for him. Which isn’t my point tho lol. Someone who would develop into a Jordan Staal, or Cirelli for example, is who I mean and who I’d want to get

The one thing I dont like when it comes to Kakko is trading him for a rental.

I had suggested we go an inexpensive route, in terms of getting a 4th line faceoff guy and sign Cody Eakin. He was 56% on the dot last season with Buffalo, which means he has faced all those top faceoff guys in the East and seems to do well.

Ill bring up someone Ive brought up previously, Paul Statsny, he had 45pts and was 56.6% on the dot last year. He may be a solid 1 year rental that wont be expensive to sign.

I get that! lol. I was just trying to point out just how difficult it would be to find. The name we've heard most is Turcotte. Well, again we are finding out that draft isn't standing the test of time. I guess Cozens might be the one, if Buffalo would part with him (they won't), but aside from that...

That's why I always go retro! Love finding an old one that no one else will have. I've gotten so many comments (or even questions!) about my Fotiu jersey!!

Ya, the Turcotee/Dach type center is what I would want if we traded Kakko. Similar age, similar struggles so far, similar draft position. Out of the 3 Turcotte has probably proven the least with Dach and Kakko having almost identical numbers

Copp isnt a good enough 2C. Hes mostly a winger to begin with. Hes put up 40 or more points once. Panarin needs a legit center IMO
