Hard to take someone serious who talks about how soft Horvat is in the same post that he's pumping Petey and Boeser's tires in.

- boonerbuck

It is kind of a double standard but unless my captain is a dominant player(like 50G/100pts annually) I want him to be the strongest team guy. I want to see him, hit, stick up for teammates, put up 60-70 points and truly lead. I look at at Landeskog in Colorado and think of that as a true captain or the Foligno brothers , or a Ovechkin or Mcdavid, Stamkos. Horvat had potential but I think he’s a little soft and not dominant offensively to truly lead. I look at JT and think he’s the better all around captain. Although Horvat does have good character..

When Miller is playing his best, he would make a decent captain. When he is playing at his worst, giving up on plays, swinging his stick, quits skating and openly pouts, he would make a dreadful captain. I'll take lobo Bo in the meantime.

I just listened to the Rutherford interview on DFO pod and Rutherford is such an improvement over what we've had it's amazing. Just a clear direction and idea. So nice to see

Understand it's not Pettersson's or Boeser's job to be Captain and lead like Bo should be. Would just like to see a little meaness in BO when players are being taken advantage of and not have OEL step in and have to fight for our Captain...

Only concern for me on Rutherford is whether he is actually here to build a winner or just a retirement job. Ain't gonna be no 15 year build here and 3 cups like in PIT. I hope the commitment is there I really do. But have concerns as I have followed Rutherford in PIT for his time there.

There's definitely some separation between how soft Petey and Boeser are compared to Bo.

Take a look around the league. There are/have been many captains around the league that are as soft as Bo and some are/were considered great leaders. Not saying Bo is a great leader but your narrative is ridiculous.

Leadership shouldn't be judged by what fans desire. It's not about that at all... These players looked to Bo when the Canucks gave out the C. They sure as hell didn't poll fans to figure out who their leader should be. After a season with no C, it was determined who the players were drawn towards and who best represented the team.

I really find it funny how people think the C on a jersey determines who the players look to as their leader. They will draw towards the leadership regardless of semantics like who talks to the refs after the whistle and deals with the media post game. You don't have to be a hard ass to deal with refs and media that's for sure. If they need look to a hard nosed player for their leadership... they will do exactly that regardless of letters. In the dressing room, the leaders are often not who we think they are...

Sounds like you are looking for someone to lead the fans. You can be a leader and not wear the C. Just because you don't have a C doesn't mean you cannot be these things.

I agree. Bo's the best leader this team has. He could use some leadership support though... and who cares about letters. It's a team thing when all things considered.

I think people are confusing "sand paper" and leadership.

Exactly. Part of being the captain is being the first one to talk to the media, talk to the refs... imagine JTM being that guy? All the time? In a soft market like Vancouver?

Bo is a decent captain, he has his short comings. Maybe if the Canucks had teams that actually made the playoffs the narrative around him would be different? He's a pretty big beast in them

C = protection? You are confused. Letters are for who talks to the refs and represents the team with media. Players select their leaders and it's got nothing to do with letters.

This is all about what you want and not what the players want.

You make an excellent point that people can't see through their bias. The C has less to do with leading players than team responsibilities and image. You are making a poor choice putting the C on a player who can have a poor attitude and act unprofessional at times. If they players like what leadership a player like Miller brings on the ice and in the dressing room... he's the team (frank)ing leader then C or no C.

You address that by adding team toughness... not putting the C on a tough player. This team can be tougher with Bo still captain. Putting the C on a fighter/checker/ahole is not going to make Petey, Boeser, Hoglander, Hughes etc any tougher...

Horvat is not a leader. I thought this was clear to everyone after this season. The room was a mess and Bo was quiet as a mouse.

The list of captains in the NHL like this past and present is pretty (frank)ing long and some are great leaders. Stop confusing enforcer and leaders. The type of player you think a leader needs to be is more of a minority in he NHL and I would love to have the complete leader on the Canucks but its not something you can simply trade for and is one hell of a task to draft at 18 years old.

Most teams don't have the player who covers all the aspects of team representation, the mediator with the officials on ice, the charity minded person who uses up so much personal time with the public and media, the role model for young players, the player who can put the team on his back and carry like a mofo, model of consistency season after season. Bo covers everything there but enforcer so why the (frank) are people taking it so personal?
