Haven't the Leafs traded every first round pick until the year Star Trek starts?
- micah555

I think they have their next 3, which means I'd want one this year? Probably another as well?

I hear what you're saying, it's nice having a top 10 starting goalie.

You can trade players without tearing things apart, it's about what you get in return. I'll once again use the Leafs as a trading partner, just because they have players available and have a pretty solid need at goaltending.

Demko
Miller

for
Nylander
Liljegren
1st,
Mrazek
2nd
Robertson

That's a basis of a trade to me. It doesn't hurt much short term, long term could be a huge benefit.

Islanders:

Pageau, Dobson, Varlomov, 2022 1st

For Miller & Demko.

Maybe there’s another pick or two going back and forth.

Unless you are going to full on rebuild, run with an AHL team for a few years and then be great again.

Goalies tend not to get the best return. Could you get #2 from NJ for Demko? Another top 10 plus for Miller. Maybe Clark can work his magic and turn Martin into an NHL starter?

- 1970vintage

Totally disagree. Even during a rebuild a team needs to be capable in net. It’s the one position that can singlehandedly win you games.

Build from the net out. You got a relatively young goalie that’s a stud. Keep him and that’s one less hole to fill.

On the other hand, a stud goalie can impede your rebuild. I just look at Demko as an asset, same as anyone else. He's a player that can create quite a bit of currency.

Not many goalies play 60+ games effectively and his trajectory looks great. But it's goaltending, things vary greatly from season to season except for a select few.

If you think you're trading the 2nd coming of Roy then by all means hold onto him. If you think you can have the same calibre of goaltending in another 2 years with a slight drop off in the meantime then maximize the return.

If Shannon & Kyper are off base we'll hear from JR next week.

How is the atmospheric river rain situation treating the left coast?

I saw the Twitter feeds on the subject but I was busy today with my dear old dad, so I didn’t comment. Not sure where they’re getting this information from, or if they’re just guessing, either way, I don’t disagree that the chemistry needs fixin and the team needs more size, speed and sandpaper.

I agree, goaltending is important, and harder to fill 32 spots than 128 (top 4 D or top 6 W), but as golfsy says, everyone should be available (for the right price) and how steep would the drop off be in a few years time? Sure, could be significant, but look at Colorado in the SCF with Francooze/Krumpus

If we're packaging Demko and JTM, both hitting their peak performance levels and on comparably cheap contracts, i'd look to Carolina for a trade.

Kotkaniemi, Jesperi C, 21. Signed for the next 8 years @ 4.8m.
Pesce, Brett, RD 27. Signed for next 2 years @ 4m.
Heimosalmi, Aleksi RD 19. Former 2nd round pick. Prospect
2022 2nd rounder.

Yup.

We're stripping it all down today.
I think we're aiming for the midget from Vancouver in the 2023 draft.
What could possibly go wrong?!?

Love it. Embrace the chaos.

If we're trading Demko, and Colorado fails to win the cup....

Demko + Miller for Byram, Newhook, Barron. Swing for those fences baby.
