Can you believe some fools here thought the goals were not coming for Lehkonen? - Scabeh
Lehkonen was undervalued here, and I kinda wish we would have kept him. On the other hand, with the kind of salary he will ask for this summer...this team already has too much money invested in bottom 6 players.

Well my love for Lehkonen is well documented.
He was a player we could have easily kept and he would have been tremendous help moving forward.
This being said, it was the right move to trade for Barron and a 2nd round pick. Barron is a solid prospect and the only interesting RHD we have in the pool. Who knows what the 2nd rounder will give us.
The freed cap space makes sense as well.
So, happy for him and his success in Colorado but trading him was the right move.

One could say they invested in the wrong top 6 players, too.

Not sure how he was undervalued. He's just a very good two-way 3rd line winger. Once he wins his Cup he'll get overpaid like Coleman or Goodrow and then he will be overated. It's the cycle.

agreed. would've loved to keep him, as having a reliable steady player is always a good thing, but with the salary he'll be making it made sense to trade him.

I think a lot of fans dumped on him because he generated a certain number of scoring opportunities in the regular season but rarely converted them into goals. a player that is very sound defensively and never puts you in trouble while not putting a whole lot of points on the board won't necessarily receive that much praise.

If he sticks on Colorado's top 6.... we'll see some pretty good numbers for our boy Lehky.

Again, his salary would be manageable if not for the poop contracts on the team.
Lehks was was not a trade victim because of his salary, but of other's salary.
I'd still rather have him (and his potential new contract) than the 2nd and Baron, but we will see how it turns out.

really eh...? not too fond of Baron I guess? - Pat1993
No.
That is not it.
I just am a fan of Lehks and what he brings to the team.
Of the things that needed to change in the lineup, he was not even close to the top. But you can't expect anything decent in return, if you are only offering poop contracts from mediocre players, let alone find an idiot willing to take them off your hands.

well speaking of needs, I don't think acquiring a dman prospect is a bad thing at all... but I get what you're saying, they didn't really "need" to trade him either, had it not been for other circumstances. Toffoli is a guy I didn't necessarily want to see traded either, especially compared to other guys that are still there lol

I thought we sold high on Toffoli. So I'm pretty happy we did.
