I'm not against that at all. Like you mentioned, implementing it could be tricky.
- rayc16

It's very tricky because you start to hone in on very little things that will drive people nuts. Hits are SUPPOSED to be body to body. Arms should not be involved much in a hit. While it's hard not to involve your arms in some fashion depending on your body position when hitting a player, but I think an area where you start to LOOK AT.

It's one thing when you're lining up a player face to face and your arms get extended towards the torso, but we often see upward trajectory with the arms. So, do you start to hone in that?

If you're going to hit a player with the side of your body, do you look at the same thing? Side hits you sometimes follow through with your arm to some degree for leverage so you don't fall through them, so do you limit the height?

Now, I'm not saying my examples make any sense. I'm just playing devil's advocate with more extreme examples, but that's where things get tricky. Fans will hate that you'd basically have to change the way players deliver hits, but is it necessary? Maybe they need to relearn how a basic body check is delivered to limit the chances?

Again, just playing devil's advocate, but something needs to be done. Players need to start playing the game a little differently than it is now without sacrificing the physicality. That's the tricky part.

I honestly don't know how you go about implementing it. There were just a few hits I saw this year with no suspension and made me say to myself how can there not be. Another one off the top of my head was a MacKinnon hit on Nolan Patrick. No reason for MacKinnon's to hit Patrick in the head on the play.

After last night near decapitation of Palat, is it time to consider putting in the Trouba Rule? Any hit to the head, no matter the point of contact, it is a penalty and a suspension?

This is the fifth time in these playoffs he tried to serious hurt someone. He already knock Crosby and Jarvis out of their game and tried to do it to Guentzel and Domi. I would prefer not putting in a rule like this but his chicken winging has to stop or will that only happen when he tries and does it to McDavid?

- stevens87

El Troubow received an elbowing penalty for his actions against Guentzel. You don't have to make contact for this to be a penalty. The rules are in place, they just need enforced.

That’s nice and all but it doesn’t matter because Lidstrom is the greatest defenseman of all time.
- Feds91Stammer

Obviously someone who didn’t see Orr play.
Would bet that you never were lucky enough to see him play in person.

Wouldn’t have to be that old . I understand being very impressed with the big red wing.
Seeing him play for his whole career it’s understandable that a wing fan would say he is #1. All I’m saying it might be different if you actually saw Orr play.

Forget about Trouba, this should be a thing no matter what. That said, it would be very tricky. There would have to be caveats that would become subjective in the way interference calls can be.

If a player gets hit without the head being the first point of contact, but ultimately gets hit in the head from a completely clean hit either because of the way he fell or some other situational thing you can't predict, then what do you do?

That's just one question of many when you make a rule like that. I'm not trying to disagree with it, because I do agree with it conceptually, but it's very complicated. You need to figure out a way to do this without removing the physicality. The hope would be players would find a way to change the way they hit without stopping the hitting... ja feel?

Trouba during the regular season had hits on kharia and Mackinnon that were clean but dangerous. Their head was down and initial contact was chest and then the head. That was the Jarvis hit as well. Legal by the rule book. League should make it that any head contact is illegal.

During the playoffs the Crosby hit didn’t look as bad as most people thought. Hate to say it but Crosby and zib have had a ton of concussions so the slightest contact is a problem.

The Jake and palat hits were bad. Elbow was out and he was head hunting. Should’ve been suspended. For me I can’t wait for trouba to be traded. He’s their worst defenseman and his contract is top 5 worst in the league

Orr?

Lidstrom is arguably not even #2.

I’ve seen plenty of guys rack up points against beer league goalies. It’s not impressive.

Seider is good but he’s got a long way to go before he passes Lidstrom.

Ray Bourque was better than Lidstrom...

Orr
Bourque
Lidstrom

Honorable mention to Brian Leetch.

As far as Orr is concerned, nobody here including myself can really opine on this. I doubt many on this board were alive to see him play, but the one thing that is true regardless is that he completely changed the defensive position forever.

Maybe defensemen jumping in offensively was an inevitable progression, but who knows when that that would have happened if it wasn't Orr who started that change. Maybe it would have taken another ten or twenty years? Would Bourque, Coffey, Murphy or Lidstrom actually have been the type of dmen they were without Orr? Probably not.

Big Bird? Yeah... he was a force on the ice - the 70s version of Chara.

Again. I’m not 70 years old. Nobody cares about the plumber/construction worker and beer league goalie era.

You must know how ridiculous you sound. I obviously saw Orr live so i believe him to be what he is # 1. You may not agree but to call the era with Orr, Bobby Hull, Lafleur, Gil Perreault ,Clarke, etc and dmen like Robinson, Potvin who are right there with Lidstrom the plumber era shows what you really know. And by the way Bourque was better

How does your beer league goalie comment explain how Orr won the Art Ross (TWICE) and came second 3 other times.

Weren't the forwards of his era shooting at the same crappy goalies?

According to you hockey did not exist before 1995.

As a "fan" of the game you have no friggin clue.

One of the best, six time Stanley Cup champion, two time Norris Trophy winner, Conn Smythe trophy. He was a +120 in '76-'77. I rank him number two behind Orr.

He actually has ten rings, six as a player and four as a coach.

Cool. He dominated an uncompetitive era.
