they play very well, they're calm, but still a bit lucky. NYR were driving the play.
NYR who are a very young team, exceptionnal run for them. not over though, the 4th one is often difficult to get. |

while I agree, the rags definitely aren't in an ideal situation right now, whereas tampa wouldn't have minded as much trailing 2-3 in the series... (frank)ers.

NY are where they deserved to be…
To beat Tampa, you need to play much more intense game than that…
Colorado will push much more than that…

With Martin St-Louis, I think this changed a bit…
Hope next year he will continue to build a better offensive minded style…
That team had been corrupted for past 30 years by coaches like Julien, Martin, Therrien…

meh, coaches work with what they have.
you don't have any talent, you put most of your money on the back end.... can't blame the coaches for that. |

drafting, player development and the way the team was built probably hurt way more than coaching did, it isn't like these coaches had a lot to work with either. but yeah we're definitely due for having a more offensive-oriented team, now that the 10.5M goalie era is coming to an end. |

I keep hearing how Jon Cooper is a good coach, I'm not saying it isn't the case but I always wonder what exactly the % of contribution to success that coaching vs the players have. obviously a great coach won't win with a poopty team but bad coaching can also (frank) things up for a talented roster...

you're too young to remember, you were probably not even born, but it is very well known that when the Habs won the cup in 86', vets like Gainey and Robinson were telling the team : let the coach say what he wants, don't bother, we'll do what we think is right. we know what to do in order to win more than he does. lol
that being said, yes a good coach will help. Cooper is certainly a good coach. we can see how his team adapt to their opponent after a game or two into the series. it never fails.
and bad coaches will hurt their team. remember Keefe not splitting Matthews and Marner againts the Habs last year? |

which kind of brings me to my point, that to a certain extent a good team with enough chemistry can win despite whoever is coaching. that's why I don't mind when the Jack Adams is given to a coach who didn't have as much talent on his roster but managed to get the best out of them, instead of the guy who had to work with elite forwards, a Norris winning dman and the best goalie in the world. |

but that 86' cup was an exception. Perron was a rookie coach, and Gainey/Robinson both halloffamers who had won multiple cups in the 70'.
normally I'd say the coaching plays for 15-25%. depends on the team you have of course. if you have a mature team with many vets, it's less important. if you have a young team like the NYR, it's more important.

meh, Vasilevsky makes what? 10M?
the problem with Price is not his salary. yes he's overpaid, but the fact he never had a good team in front of him. |

I hate to burst your bubble, but if they face COL in the finals... even though I picked COL to win.... I think TB will 3peat.
I didn't think they'd have enough gas to go all the way once again. looks like they do. |
