Well that's my point. We didn't need one. Sheahan could have done just as good of a job that Bonino did! We'll never know because he wasn't given the chance. - stevens87
Hindsight. At the time, the Pens needed an improvement. Statistically, Brass should have been an improvement. Didn't work out. When you have a chance to do something historic like threepeat, you make the trades to push your team over the top.

Sheahan was in that position for 2/3rds of the season ahead of the trade deadline and it wasn’t working out. He was a 4th liner. |

Having two generational centers was not enough? Of the three teams left, which one of them has one let alone two? - stevens87 Every single Pens team to make the finals had 3 solid centers. First 2 Cups it was Mario, Ronnie, Trottier. Next 2 appearances was Sid, Geno, Staal. Last 2 Cups was Sid, Geno, Bonino. After Trottier left, no more finals despite having 2 of the greatest centers ever and an all time wing, so no, 2 generational centers has never been enough for the Pens.

This is some revisionist history BS. Not only did they need a 3C there’s no guarantee they draft Miller either. |

The point is someone has to center the third line and Riley Sheahan wasn’t good enough. He ended up being better than Brassard. The trade busted no doubt, but we needed a center.
I mean Bonino was no world beater by any means but he was a good 3C for us. We needed a good 3C regardless how great Sid and Geno are. - Victoro311
HBK. The ability to deploy Kessel on a third line is how you win cups.
Kind of neat looking over those rosters. Seeing some of those kids come up and play significant rolls. Pens haven't had a player do that since. |

Man, this is going to be a painful off season on here. - Rinosaur
You think? I'm a little more optimistic. I'll be way more optimistic if Hexy can move a contract. They'll continue to spend to the cap and that's a huge part of it.
This ownership group has deep pockets and the desire to win. I'd be way more concerned if the new owner was a penny pincher. Look at the Pittsburgh Pirates. They're owned by a scumbag with absolutely no desire or intention to win. No amount of public pressure works on Bob Nutting. He just takes the criticism and stuffs his pockets.

For all their (frank)ing crying about other teams being sore losers...pot meet kettle. Fox's stick swing at Kuch was way higher than any of Geno's nonsense. And they're really flooding their tampons about Stamkos kicking the sh!t out of Laf |

Flying elbow right to the head. Palat just ducked it. He's a scumbag. |

Hasn’t been penalized for one yet so he’s still a reputable player I’m pretty sure. |

Good on Palat to get out of the way. He really could've hurt Trouba's elbow.
Whats that old saying? Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me... we are on fool me 6 times with Trouba. |

Someone should low bridge him when he comes in with the elbow like that. All these elbows of his are pure circumstance. No intent at all.

Man, I was all about that Brassard trade. Was so stoked. Big Game Brass right in time for another playoff run. I think everyone was down with that trade at the time. Didnt work out though, it happens sometimes, actually I really think a lot of the big trades around TDL dont usually work out in the sense the team goes far or wins cup. |

That’s just because it’s super hard to advance in the playoffs so it’s more likely that you’ll disappoint than get far. It’s always better to get the best player you can at the TDL regardless. |
