Depends on the team and player, but some teams will insure contracts against the possibility that a player never plays again. If that happens, the insurer picks up part or all of the cost of the remaining cash |

What are your thoughts on Kemell or Savoie? - PrinceChill
Savoie is my dream at 9. If he’s 6’2 he is a slam dunk top 3 pick.
Kemell’s release will have him as a fixture on a PP1 for years for whomever drafts him. I don’t think he’s as good as Liiga point totals say he is (inflated shooting percentage) but he looks the part of a top 6 winger in the league and would be another sniper in the org if the Sabres happen to take him at 9. |

I feel bad for everyone in the front office. Imagine taking an NHL job and being pressured to find a way to operate below the cap floor? Across town, Josh Allen will be paid almost as much in real $ as the entire Sabres roster.

Nice. Thanks. I’m rooting for Savoie to fall as well. There should also be someone good to take at 16. Good pick to take a swing on a high upside guy. |

It's 60% due to his age, if his contract is insured.
The Sabres could wait until after the Stars pay his $1M bonus to lower what they will owe even more, but not sure the Stars will go for that.
https://www.capfriendly.com/players/ben-bishop
Bishop is 35 years old. This means that if his contract is still insured his $3.5M in actual salary still owed would only be covered up to 60%.

I get the feeling this is the last year of being a bottom feeder.
FO focuses on maximizing the Draft for 2 years...
Use this season to test and validate their new Analytics Sytem, work out the kinks.
Next season they work on Trades and FA as well.
It's coming around.
Trust the Process. Resist the urge to splurge. |

If they retain all 3 - 1sts, and their 2nd, their pipeline will be fortified very nicely. Add in 3 2nds next year and boom, it is time to fire up the booster rockets! |

I mean who knows, but he made $1.05m the last 2 years and $1.5m the year or 2 before that. - IonSabres
I expect adams to overpay to retain, like with girgens |

Why, if you intend to sign the following, would you make the Bishop trade -
- starting G, $3m to $6m
- 2RhD, $4.5m+
- scoring winger, at $4m+
Doesn't make sense since those moves combined with other roster signings get you over the Cap Floor and about $20m short of the Cap Ceiling. There would be no senseahle reason to do so.
Sabres are signaling they are a Cap Floor team. - IonSabres
So…. What you are saying…
Add JJP and Quinn.
Maybe, maybe! Resign olo, but probably trade him
Resign eakin.
Sign PK
Upl and Malcolm start the year.
If this is the path, do the vibes last?

Definitely will be.
July 7th/8th are the most important days in the franchise’s history and what the Sabres accomplish on that day is more significant than whether they are a cap floor or or cap ceiling team imo.
Picking 9, 16, 28, 41 we need to hit on three of the picks, with two being studs |

They all know the plan down there. They're building around the young guys. People need to stop being in denial about it.

what happens when you have to pay 3 or 4 prospects their bridge deals for 4 years straight though?
bringing up 12-15 guys over a 4 year stretch is going to be very hard to keep a team under the cap 5 years later |

They are operating like a minor league team. Don't have to be happy about that.

They're relying on the young guys. Building around them is TBD. Getting a pro-rated $5m towards the cap for a guy who won't play is not building around them |

I'm not worried about it. Why should anyone be worried about it? They'll figure it out.
They're not ready to go nuts in free agency. Now is not the time.
They'll get a goalie, D man, maybe a F (or maybe it's Vinnie).
My point is, we all know what's happening, how they're going about it, the basic timeline, etc etc. To act surprised by anything they're doing (acquiring a bad contract for a year) tells me some people aren't paying attention. |

given the fact there is a window for a goalie, a top 4 RD and a top 6 guy for 2 years
there is zero reason not to try to grab 3 guys to fill those holes and give this team a chance to compete and get out of the most miserable 11 year stench in the entire existence of the NHL history
