if you mean get lucky with a goalie, then yes. I agree

Have no idea how a team can start with a Goalie and build from there.

Shesterkin was drafted 8 years ago, and the rangers took 3 nobodys ahead of him in that draft. so good planning?

Calgary was a legit contender. LA was only 5pts behind Edmonton. They were pretty much on the same level.

There were a bunch of good teams in the east and one good team in the west. The Oilers just played them. It didn’t go well.

True, that and Calgary got called for what they got away with during the regular season.

The 12 minutes of PK for the Leafs was a factor, the biggest factor IMO were the non calls on infractions against Marner and Matthews. McDonaugh was basically given a free pass to cross-check, interfere, hold, board and knee the entire series.

And that’s exactly what the boys have to fight through… I said it about a month before the season ended after a game they got held and whacked… get used to it …

At the same time I’ve come around on trading Willy… These guys are still so young…

Fix the goalie situation, tinker with the 4th line and see what needs to be added to the trade deadline… and go with that…

Leafs you’re gonna be 100 point team with their eyes closed.

This is exactly how I feel. Maybe the Blues are decent, but really just 1 great team. The knights would have been good had they not be decimated by injuries likely too.

If the Leafs can someone get a bonafide top end starter they will be a lot better. I thin they need a top 6 LW toom but I agree with you, they are still young.

crazy
having the best player(s) in the League doesnt mean a thing in the NHL anymore.

Mcdavid can only play 1/3 of the game

- senstroll

Yeah but McDavid and McMathews can play 2/3rds.

Leafs need a Goalie, a second line LW and to solidify the 4th line.

Man if Shesterkin is that good in the 4th round, imagine how good Halverson is going to be soon!

Still need to be injury free at playoff time. Instead of the off side challenge, I would rather see a coach's challenge on a penalty - as they have in the NBA. It still wouldn't solve the non-calls. Which can only be solved by league accountability . Peel was fired for admitting he cheated while miked. Why does it come down to admission, the league can see the incompetence.

Agreed. Well see what they can do to pull it off. I wish Forsberg could be fit, but I know he cant. He'd be great on the second line.

Holy crap. he had a 762 SV% in the AHL. Only 2 games, but clearly enough to demote him to the ECHL.

Now I get the part that "even they didn't think he'd be that good, otherwise they wouldn't have picked Brandon Nobody at #59".

But at the end of the day, they are the team who believed in his potential enough to grab him in the fourth round. It probably made sense at the time to grab him then instead of earlier in the draft but that didn't mean they didn't believe in him, otherwise they would have picked another nobody instead.

Everyone believes in who they are picking, but im sure they didnt think he'd be this good, else they wouldnt have risked waiting until the 4th round.

Well no one is a certainty at the draft.

If they 100% knew he'd turn as good as he has, of course they would have picked him earlier.

But they had to believe in his potential to pick him at all. So I'm giving them full credit.

They’re making dinner reservations by then. They’ve got the (frank)ing European or Russian scout screaming at them to pick some guy. Nobody knows anything about goalies so they just say sure Dimitri, we’ll pick this guy, just shut up.

Calgary was a legit contender, but then Markstrom forgot how to goalie
- PatC80

They have a great coach who can squeeze the most out of what he has in front of him but they are not nearly deep enough. Oilers effectively shut down Ratchuck (except one game) and Johnny Hockey (the Mitch Marner of the West) and then it was a game of 'whose goalie will play worse" - and Calgary lost that game.

It’s too much for him defensively. He’d be much better better on the wing.
