They need cheap everything to fill out their roster for next season.

I wonder if they’ll get that Russian fella?
Should be able to find some career reclamation projects like E Kane.

That Russian guy was saying how he wants a place long term, looking at teams that have cap after next season. Oilers don't have cap this season or next either.

I wonder about his talent level in the NHL. I don't see him being high end and I don't know if he has that bottom 6 skill set but I like free "currency"

There are many teams out there that feel they can compete for the cup. JTM at his salary is going to draw plenty of interest.

He has little say in where he goes, except in the form of an extension. Even at a 1 year deal he's a premium trade chip, much more so than as a premium player at a premium contract.

Key is when and if they play that card. I'm sure they have a deadline to reach an agreement.

He's also not the only guy on the team that can be traded. I'd trade Demko, Horvat. anybody if they improved the team. You just need a substantial return. Different teams are looking for different pieces.

Hopefully it isn't just Miller that gets moved out.

Demko, Hughes, EP you'd think are not on the market.

With Rutherford's gun slinging history you never know?

I'm sure there are conversations on all players on the team.

To get good young players you pay a premium, they don't want to trade picks. Players will get moved.

As there should be.

Everyone has their favourite players, but at the end of the day building a proper team is everyone's goal.

Other guys on the roster even at highly inflated costs still have value, especially if you eat salary.

Myers isn't a cap dump but you probably have to eat some salary to better your return. OEL you have to eat for sure. They're both still capable 20 minute players though on D.

They're just paid too much.

I read somewhere OEL might consider a trade to where he could be on the first D pairing and not behind QH. Not sure how accurate this is.

Weird fascination acquiring OEL on Benning's part.

Imagine just having the cap space and the 1st round prospect instead of Garland and OEL? Oh yeah, we don't have second this year.

I can't believe people still defend the guy.

Rumor was JR was having exploratory discussions with other teams about OEL early on.

I'm not a fan of the trade, but as a buddy of mine pointed out we got a top 4 D, ARI eats 900k each year, and a good young forward. Term isn't great.

He's still a good hockey player, he's still overpaid.

Retaining salary and making him underpaid is a great way to acquire assets, provided you can find him a home he likes on a contender.

It's prohibitive.

Garland is OK, Guenther will be better. Much better I think. We're down a 2nd as well, have no depth.

Lose the cap space, have the ability to sign FA's and keep your draft picks. That's what worried people about Benning entering this past season.

Many of the top players of all time were traded. I don't see any candidates on this roster as constructed.

I think we do have many assets available to trade if we're open minded. Who wants them, what have they got? What can we acquire vs what can we absorb?

Agreed.
All avenues need to be explored.
