because the last time we played Tampa in the ECF in 2015, we didn't have Zuccarello, and it was barely mentioned
I think Tampa has spend millions on billboards reminding people - jimbro83
Zuccarello was a great player but he is not comparable to Point. I do like to think if they still had him that they might make it to the finals. But who knows? That series is hazy for me because it was played when my daughter was born.
And I mean look at all the sh!t being said about Tampa's cups hahah...the covid bubble cup needs an asterisk and the over the cap cup last year needs an asterisk. I dont agree with either of those needing asterisks and I guarantee you the fans, while maybe caring what others were saying at the time, no longer give a sh!t about it haha. They are etched into Lord Stanley for eternity. - MattStrat
one of the problems is there is like one Tampa fan on hockeybuzz and no Tampa writer
To be fair many writers specificially mentioned that the step-up in goalie quality would be an issue for the Rangers heading into the Conference finals. They also said that Tampa would steam roll after having 9 days off.
Following the win they were like: "LOL Guess the Lightning and Vasilevskiy are just rusty" - JRR1285
The Lightning’s number one center and best playoff performer is out. You guys can make pretend that doesn’t play a part in their performance but you’ll be all alone on that island
I’ll also add there’s some truth to the sentiment that you stated. We know from experience we caught them flat footed in game 1 only to be throttled by them. Not saying that’s going to happen rangers are playing great hockey and I’m not trying to take it away from them but the lightning missing Point is a big deal no matter how much anyone tries to diminish it. I think you know that. I wouldn’t care if I were a Rangers fan it’s probably going to be one of the best opportunities to get through the playoffs and win the cup. Look at Colorados goaltending. Probably the weakest field of goaltenders in playoff history and the Rangers have elite tending right now.

Well the Avs played against Ville Husso after Binnington got hurt and nobody talks about it.
Avs we’re 1-1 against Binnington and then won 3 of 4 against Husso to take the series. - rangerdanger94
Yeah thats a good point about Avs and Husso... Husso ended up being the worst goalie in the playoffs so far to play more than one game...even worse than Domingue...the last time I looked at this chart Kuemper was middle of the back...now he's worse than Domingue

I never said Point wasn't a big deal. I also do not agree with any of these conspiracy theories. Though I do think that the announcers tend to have an anti NY bias. That is pretty obvious and I have heard it during nationally televised games with the Islanders too. They get all juiced up for the other teams boring basic plays like cycling and barely can make the call when the NY team scores a goal.

Apparently it means we go to other teams blogs and continue feuds. - JRR1285
I think because the Pens blog is one of the more active, and we're still frequently discussing things this late in the season, its a bit of draw to you guys and others while still frequenting this site so much. Then of course human nature kicks in for some and things have to be said...reply comments and posts have to be made...arguments started hahah I'm no angel with this stuff sometimes, myself.

These blog writers/analyst/commentators are all using one singular argument in a vacuum over and over again to explain a Rangers win. Completely, ignoring how a TEAM wins or how a TEAM adapts to playoff hockey.
These same writers talk all about that in general and relating to a lot of teams, but regarding the Rangers, nope, it's a singular argument.

Point is the #1 playoff performer of the last 3 seasons statistically, he's a massive loss for them...but I dont think he would of changed the outcome of game 1...perhaps the scoreboard though.

Did you just compare Tampa losing Brayden Point for a series to you guys losing Zuccarello? Come on
Just enjoy the ride and be happy you’re in this situation. Like I said I wouldn’t care of the roles were reversed. Christ, I was hoping Point would stay out when he got injured last ECF. He unfortunately came back and throttled us.

I'll go around and read the other blogs sometimes because there are occasionally good, unbiased takes on a play or a game. But more often I just find people being blatant homers which is normal, I get it. I choose not to engage. You won't catch me in other blogs unless it is discussing usually neutral things.
Once in a while I can't help myself and engage an idiot but that is rare. I'm also not always nice when people don't show etiquette like waiting a few hours or a day after a loss to troll.

Maybe not. Who knows? When you lose a player like Point that takes on the ice time and assignments he does it has a negative impact on the entire lineup. The Rangers have a real good chance to advance this round.

Well to be fair everyone hates the islanders including me this season
