Sure they would've. In the same way they are now with Copp there. Copp is no where near as good as Buchnevich. It's not close.
Easy choice between choosing Buchnevich or Strome. Buchnevich is better and you have young players ready to move up to replace Strome.
Drury made a mistake. You never take a bad return for a skilled player like Buchnevich to add mediocre grit. That's awful asset management. - MJL

So their rebuild started when they drafted a goalie in the 4th round of 2014 draft. You are a fraud.
He wasn't even the first goalie they drafted. - hello it's me 2050
Good news is that if that’s the criteria for when a rebuild starts maybe I could be on board with a 7 year time frame. |

Ranger's never rebuilt. They successfully retooled. They made the playoffs from 2011-2017. Over that time they retooled their lineup. They never bottomed out. There was a small gap before some of their picks came to fruition but they moved guys out who werent apart of their future and brought in new players.
Only 6 players on that team were drafted: Kreider, Chytil, Laf, Kakko, Miller and Shesterkin. The rest of the team were acquired in trades or FA signing.
They made smart moves acquiring Trouba, Fox, Strome and Zibanejad. They won all these trades and these all play a big part in the team now. Not to mention signing Panarin as FA.
Even what the Flyers did under Hextall was not a rebuild. Hextall looked for trades to get younger but for the most part he tried keeping the team competitive. We never bottomed out, we continued to build around Giroux, Voracek and Simmonds. Hextall never touched the core of the Flyers aside from trading Schenn.

They might. The Retool is supposed to be 2-3 years, they dont have to make a FA splash this year. They will probably be in a better position to make a signing next season. Theres a lot of potential big names out there next offseason.
Patrick Kane
Bo Horvat
Dumba
Larkin
Mackinnon
Pastranak
Patches
Ryan O'Reilly
JT Miller
Yea chances are some names like Mackinnon and Pastranak likely re-sign but you never know - xShoot4WarAmpsx

The quote from Scott was "We have a pretty good core, it starts with a healthy Couts, Hayes, Farabee, would love to to have Ellis back, but when you look at that reality of it, 2 or 3 pieces would be great, maybe a little more, but the core of the team is good".
So just all of you stop with the BS narrative. The fact is the core of this team IS GOOD! The Flyers have some good players and if healthy those players will provide a solid foundation to build upon. This is not going to be a 5 year process to get this team back to contention! - jd250
unless you guys really suck this year and get bedard to pair with a top 5 hit this year, then yes. its going to be at least 5 years. (provided the flyers try to implement some win now fixes to augment the current core) |

So there are no other good players in next year's draft besides Bedard? In 2015 Colorado drafted Rantanan with the 10th overall pick. The 2023 draft is being compared in terms of depth to the 2015 draft, you know the draft where the Flyers drafted TK with the 24th pick? |

If Buch was a center I would agree with you but he was a wing where they have an over abundance and couldnt afford him. Pretty simple. They took the best offer they got for him. Him on the roster vs Goodrow..and Copp and they arent near as good

If the Flyers want to rebuild, that rebuild starts with moving Couturier. The notion that you cant is ridiculous. Even though Buffalo's hand was forced, they moved Eichel and they came out ahead from it, they aren't suffering from lack of veteran presence. They essentially got 3 1st round picks and a 2nd for him. Two former 1st overall players in Tuch and Krebs plus an actual 1st and a 2nd.
Thats the type of move the Flyers need. The Flyers will never become contenders if we half ass a rebuild. Fans get too attached to players. Ask me years ago if Hextall should have moved Giroux and Voracek, I would have said no but the reality is they should have moved them in their prime. Just like Holmgren did with Richards and Carter. Those two trades were probably his best deals as a GM not that he had many good deals. People here were upset but it was 100% the right decision. |

I'm not portraying anything. The only reason the Flyers have a top 5 pick in this upcoming draft is because injuries saved them temporarily from their own incompetence. If they have better injury luck for this upcoming season than the Flyers are likely going to be a capped out middle of the pack team. That is the worst position an NHL team can be in.

not even being a Richard, but TK isnt elevating a team to a different type of stratosphere at all. hes a useful top 6 player sure, but thats not going to make or break this team right now.
i wont claim to know the draft like some do, i was just using bedard as an example of if he is supposed to be what he is supposed to be. but the flyers will need to either hit on a cant miss superstar that makes that sort of difference quickly or link together 3 or 4 top 5 picks that they hit on.
its going to take some time and the time will likely only start once they finally embrace a rebuild.

Middle of the pack is the worst place the Flyers could be yet you continue to defend Hextall who during his tenure had us in the middle of the pack as well.....
2018-19: Picked 10th
2017-18: Picked 19th
2016-17: Picked 12th (Won Lottery and moved to 2nd)
2015-16: Picked 18th
2014-15: Picked 7th

The Patrick selection was catastrophic. It wasn't the only error in evaluation. However, a top 2 pick not even getting signed to a 2nd contract is a huge issue. When the Flyers drafted JVR, at least he was productive. Trading him for Schenn was stupid. Fletcher needs to do very little with the roster and get the right HC. Hope the young guys develop and see if Ellis can actually play hockey again. Not a great plan, but it is what it is.
I do wonder the catalyst to this failing was the decision to trade Carter and Richards. Add in the Pronger eye injury and then the wheels really come off. |

Let’s face it, this team ain’t getting fixed while comcast holds the reigns. Hopefully they suck enough and become a financial drain that they decide to sell the team. This franchise has not been the same since mr snider fell ill
You can sugar coat it, spin it, and throw perfume on the crap this team has become, but nothings getting fixed till the clear house. They need change needs to happen from top to bottom. |

Most of this represents the teams failure to adjust to how to operate in the NHL with a salary cap. This team still wants to operate as it did pre cap.

I’m probably the only one here who never had an issue with the JvR signing. The guy has two 60 point plus seasons under his belt and a 20 goal scoring lock each season. He’s earned his money. Hayes is a different story and he makes more than JvR. |

Was more referring to the signing as adding to the core. Didn’t mind JVR…but the term and 7 mil was an over payment. Then again he was a UFA, so who knows if others had interest. |

I would move Couts in a heartbeat but the time to move him was before resigning him. No team is taking on his 8 yr contract with his injury history. Nice player who would be a complimentary 2C on a good team but good teams arent taking on 8 yrs. On a mediocre or bad team he is not a needle mover. Couts is here just hope he stays healthy |

Your calling other people hockey experts in jest while labeling Buchnevich as a redundant player.
Acquiring Goodrow and paying him that money was a mistake. As was adding Reaves. The Buchnevich trade was a colossal blunder. Other than that, Dury and mostly his predecessor have done a really good job. If players like Kakko, Lafreniere and Chytil blossom. They'll be the kings of the league. - MJL
The reason they let Buch go was because Kravtsov was supposed to take his spot, until he became an infant in training camp. Plus they couldn’t pay him either without losing a more key guy. Hence the redundancy part. Maybe they didn’t get enough for him, but Blais did get hurt. And he’s also what they needed at that time. We still have one or two extra wingers, and Othmann and Cuylle down the road
Goodrow are you kidding me? He is EXACTLY what the team needed. All grit all the time and like a utility infielder in baseball he can play anywhere in the lineup. Oh and he has two cups. Reaves was brought in to protect their kids and investments, and its worked out swimmingly. NO ONE took advantage of them this year
On the flyers..jd is clueless lol. The flyers need to do what some of you guys are talking about, rebuild the right way |

UFAs don’t get paid for what they’re going to do. They get paid for what they’ve done. What did John LeClair get paid when he scored five 40 plus goal seasons in a row versus what he was getting paid when his back was shot and playing through it. |
