well I didn't see any of these kids, like 99% of people here. so I'll trust Hughes. 5 years from now we'll all be able to judge if he made the right choice.

When Wright will be the Habs best player in 5 years, there won't be a debate.

So what about Bill 96 would make anything different for a hockey player and his family?

Or are you just saying the bad press doesn't help?

- Scabeh

Bad press, people feeling like using the notwithstanding clause is tantamount of restricting freedoms, etc... Just adds to the perception of making Montreal a less desirable place to play.

there sure seems to be a lot of folks that have actually followed these players closely and that have come to this conclusion as well...

I'll be honest, from what I read, I think they will pick Wright. mainly because of his character and leadership... even if Sly or others could be better players. lets hope you are right.

why? I don't get why people are so pro Wright. if in their eyes he's the bpa, good, pick him!
if they judge he is not, then they'll pick someone else. for once I have full confidence in the management team I'll let them work and wait. I'll be happy whoever they select.

wright IS the best player in this draft. he will be a very good NHL player. at worst he will be a 60-ish point 2 way player. but i think he will be a bit better than that.

That's probably it.

At worse, he's a very good 2nd line centre.

At best, he's a ppg player or more.

And our last PPG player was Kovalev in like 2007.

It's about time.

Yep. The biggest issue is that he started his CHL career by basically putting up a McDavid season and then not playing outside an U18 where he dominated with an injury and then had a strong year in one of the worst offensive seasons in OHL history. He's been cucked more than any other potential 1st overall pick. If the U20's happen in the summer, that will be really interesting.

I just can't think of a weirder story for 1st overall. Maybe Matthews playing in the Swiss league, but that's more of an oddity.

Drafting is about finding who you believe to the best player, at that moment, with the highest likelihood of meeting the expected potential.

Jamie Benn went 129th overall one year... how many players from that draft have does better than he has? You can always look back at every draft and find players that should have gone in the top five but were picked late in the first or further down the draft.

Drafting is not a science, there are too many unforeseeable permutations.

This… I won’t bet my house on it…

I would prefer to say: When Wright will be in the best players of the Habs…

I think we will get very strong defense guys…. I think Suzuki has not reach his max and god knows how Caufield will develop into… If he ends up being the new Martin Saint-Louis, this would be very serious competition to Wright!!!

But I agree with your post intent…

IMHO, the habs should leave him in juniors another year. let him mature a bit more. he really came on in the 2nd half of the season. let him build on that so he is coming into the league full of confidence. a bit more physically and emotionally mature.

i know they probably won't do it but i think itwould be best for his long term development. mainly because of how much COVID messed with his development for a couple of seasons.

If this is the logic, there would be nobody playing in any NHL city outside of maybe Tampa (without looking it up).

Maybe this should be the thing GM's in Canada promote.

Fully agree it would be just fine sending him back to junior for another year.

I suspect he gets the old 10 games trial and will be sent down if he's not looking ready.

COVID is the unknown factor here…. What kind of numbers he would have put on the board in normal circumstances is the big question here…

I agree with you that the Junior World would have been great to confirm things. Just sad this will happen after the draft…

Agreed, mostly due to the covid situation and him playing 2 games in 2 years truly impacted his development.

makar was also drafted out of the AJHL. give the kid some credit for putting in the work.

not you. just in general. they make picks based on what they see and to a certain extent what they believe will happen. drafting and evaluating 17/18 kids isn't an exact science.

never said there wasn't a problem, pat. but judging 380 million people on the actions of 5 is asinine.
