from the few things i have looked at there is no goalies worth a first round pick this year - SabresFaninIndiana
I don't see a future starter or even a borderline starter in this draft

I have no idea how you could possibly tell that.
Devon Levi was a nothing now people are pencilling him in as the Sabres starter for 10 years.
Most goalies who came to be great we’re drafted very late |

Okay, And at the point of time when Levi was selected that would be said about him.
At this point in time there isn't an outstanding goalie or even a good goalie you could point at in this draft.
Who knows what they'll be but they don't look promising |

Way overhyped and overpriced.
Those Asians need to come up with some actual good games instead of recycling the same garbage over and over

It was mostly where he was playing coming into the draft and not his size. |

Seen another one were je went late first round - Anderdog
That whole thing is a mess with having 2 draft classes in there.
Plus Quinn in the second round isn't right after the season he just had in the AHL

Agree on Quinn
But with Levi I think it's even more impressive with 2 draft classes |

What happened to Tampa's model for winning?
Drafted vaslevsky in the 1st round.
An equivalent Sabres move would be using the 16thOA to pick a goalie right?
Or is upl the Tampa model?
🤔 - Boss34
The Tampa Model was twisted to focus only on Vasi in the ensuing conversation, when my comment was addressing a previous post about need to get gritty players as the roster may get to "soft".
Lacrup or whatever his name is then singled out Vasi to focus on the Goalie only...it doesn't need to be position specific in drafting talent
The point clearly was Draft Talent (with character), acquire grit by other means.
Perhaps I should have written a dissertation length post to spell out better what I meant?
Draft talent...like Point, Kuch, Stamkos, Heddy...Vasi too, yes. Requires top notch scouting and using Analytics to help uncover gems. Sabres have some good talent they drafted that are working on making their way to the big club. Did they uncover a gem in Quinn?...maybe so. Did they perhaps ID another gem in Peterka?... maybe so.
This draft should had a fair amount of additional talent...hopefully they can find a Point or Kuch in late round 1 or round 2 with thei Analytics Dept chipping in now.
If a top end talent Goalie is available at 16...absolutely, but it isnt there right? Not sure why the focus is on Goaltending specific.
Color around the edges by using the TDL to bring in voids in lunch pail guys like Goodrow, Coleman, Paul, etc. We probably see this in the '23-24 season.
Sign savy vets with character like The Big Bear Maroon, Perry and Bellemare. Sabres aren't in that phase with their rebuild yet. |

Also, I bet Cal Kestis shows up in the Obi Wan show. When that happens I'm gonna go full fan boy |

Hank crags :
Excellent deep thought blog.
If any coach would consider 4 forwards and rotating defenseman as forwards, it would be lindy ruff.
Maybe a bit before your time, but he played some forward and defense for the Sabres if my memory proves right.
Baby steps, goalies get pulled now with 4+ minutes to play in the game.
Great blog as always - Boss34
Yeah, i put a bit about Lindy/Paetsch in the blog. I think Donny probably has some tricks up his sleeve as well.
Patrick Roy started the early goalie pull 10 years ago and it has definitely been adopted now. |
