Doing a mock Sabres offseason and my biggest ?'s in the forward group are:
- How do Quinn/JJP/Krebs all fit in the top 9?
- What is Casey Mittelstadt?
- How can you run it back w/ the same group + the young guys w/ the amount of cap space/draft capital BUF has?
The Sabres have 10 NHL forwards under contract for next season: Tage, Tuch, Skinner, Girgs, Okposo, Asplund, Cozens, Krebs, Mitts, Bjork
Sign Olofsson, call up Quinn and Peterka, then you have 13 of your 14 NHL forward spots filled
Like it's literally impossible to bring up Krebs, Peterka and Quinn while re-signing Hinostroza unless someone is on the 4th line or in the press box

Mitts needs more time. The injury that lingered killed him. I think the last few weeks to last month he was good.
And the Sabres can’t run it back. We had Johnny boychucks contract keep us over the salary cap min
So someone will have to be traded for or signed |

oh geez. I feel this conversation won't get very far. if i asked you to just take my word for it, would you? Because I can absolutely promise you that Connor Murphy is better than Robert Hagg - TheSabresTaco
he is better. most hawk fans hate him because he was trade for hjalmarsson. he is a decent 2nd pair guy. he has played on poop teams his whole career. he can handle tough comp and when he was hurt last season, jones was exposed.
no doubt he has his flaws but he would be a better partner for power than joker.
his contract is reasonable and the term is okay. i would do 28 for him for sure. and i like him |

The Weber deal is way way too much money to take on
8 mill basically for 3-4 more years. That is a lot of pegula bucks out the window for free.
Boychucks was only owned 1 mill |

It's not $8M in actual salary. He's owed $3M next season, then $1M each of his final 3 seasons. Further, how much of that will be covered by insurance? That was part of the draw to the Boychuck contract.

Only $6m total in real money over the life of the contract.

Thanks for the info, basically a lot of what I saw on CapFriendly. Most had the 28th and a 4th or Laaksonen. Seen a few that wanted the 16th but that's a no go. |

I see your point, but - other than this past season - ownership has NOT been cheap with payroll. They have in fact gone out and paid top dollar for bona-fide talent who somehow got a cancer in those particular Sabre locker rooms. There were distinct and obviously good reasons to bottom out this year, and I think most all of us are happy with the result.
Until I see them be cheap this coming season I'm not going to convict them of it. I cannot believe they're going bargain basement in net. I also think Vic will be resigned to a $5 mil deal or dealt for an equally talented but different type of forward. I have too much optimism from the play of the team this season to be miserable now. |
