so the story is...the Habs would have to make him an offer and he would have to refuse to sign with the habs for them to get compensation

yeah, so I was wrong. not at the begining of the 2nd, but according to the rank the player was first drafted.

IF Habs offer him a contract and he does't sign. which could happen btw. he didn't want to get drafted.

They still get a 2nd round pick.

Don't really understand why they wouldn't sign him though...he seems like a good hockey player from what I've heard.

Love all of this. Although I wouldn't pay them even more to take on Drouin.

Oh and the Habs are playing it right by not signing Mailloux this year. They will sign him next year though. 100%.

He's had to go through more poop for a picture of someone's hair than other actual rapists.

We'll sign him next year and he's gonna do great.

Maybe mtl would have drafted somebody else, but it's done now. And a late 2nd round pick is not the same as a late first round pick.

Coyotes would not take those contracts for free. But since Drouin only has one year left, it's not really worth it to waste a pick for that,

the way I see it is, we give you Weber, you'll save a ton of cap space due to his contract. the price to give you Weber? you also take Drouin.

Mtl gets the cap space, not the other way around. Weber would be a big hit on the Coyotes cap space. So would Drouin, not but not as long. It's Weber salary that would be low. Taking those 2 would be huge favor for mtl. Mtl would have to give something more than a late pick, one would think.

unless I am mistaken, in the past players who are on LITR for life have been traded (Hossa, Clarkson....) and the teams acquiring them did pay a price, not the other way around.

ARI wants to get to the floor and not much more, this way they get 7.8M in cap for only 1ishM

When Detroit traded the Datsyuk contract to Arizona, didn't they swap first rounders and allowed Arizona to draft Chycrhun?

Also, that $!m or so is likely insured, so there is zero out of pocket expense for them.
