that is the problem when you pay players a bridge or low level contract early in their career and they perform.

Then you have to overpay to keep them for less productive years.

I still think Gallagher is a 20-25 goal guys 45+ points, but yes, overpaid.

ever since Weber destroyed Gally's hand twice in a few years, the guy can't shoot the puck anymore

if they can move Weber, Petry, Hoffman and eventually somehow Price...things wouldn't be as bad but for now..

they don't really need cap space for the summer, they can exceed by 10%. and when season opens, they put Weber and Price on LITR.

They do not need cap space now, or even next year.

Also, I'd argue that Byron is infinitely more useful to the Habs than Hoffman.

They don't have much options after Suzuki, Caufield and Anderson. Gallagher is still likely to play in mtl top 6 next season.

I (frank)ing hate Hoffman, he has a shot...that's it. Not the right player the Habs need

If they move Weber and Petry this summer....the pressure on the cap will go down a bit. I expect they will take another iffy contract in exchange for Petry as part of a package.
