His goaltending was fine. Was he overpaid of course, he was paid like an elite goalie when he wasnt an elite goalie. He was above average/good
- xShoot4WarAmpsx

Yeah, he was ok. He had his moments. Some tough losses, too.

The thing was, we didn’t get the same guy the Coyotes had.

Now some of that may have very well been defense. I’m trying to remember the coach the Yotes had at that time, too. Was it Tippett? I think it might have been.

He’s probably in that 10-17 range.

He’s certainly not as good as McDavid, Draisaitl, Kaprizov, Matthews, MacKinnon, and Kucherov.

Id rather have a healthy Stamkos, but that’s a crapshoot. He’s got a lot of miles on him, and a bad medical record. Marner could be a safer bet at this point.

Crosby and Ovechkin are also still better, but with their ages, id probably rather have Marner locked down unless I’m trying for a Cup in the next year or two.

I think he’s in that next level of guys like Rantanen, Panarin, Aho, Huberdeau, Gaudreau, and maybe Point. You could toss in a few more. Those last three guys have all had some outlier years which really spiked their value. Marner is a little more consistent with his ppg, but you’ll get more goal scoring out of the others.

Is Marner a top 10? Nah. Probably not. Would I choose him over some guys in the top 10 if I’m building a team? Oh, yeah. Sure would. He’s like 25 and plays electric hockey. If I already have a guy who can put in the net, there are few others I’d want on his line to make sure he’s given an abundant number of opportunities to do so.

I like Marner, but man, the Leaf boards get on him pretty good sometimes. I’m guessing it goes back to the contract negotiations, but they sure have called him soft quite a bit.

Leafs fans just may rival Flyers fans when it comes to being (frank)ing stupid about their own players.

There's Matthews, McDavid and Drai... then a group of 10-15 forwards you could rank any which way that includes Marner.

IMO he's easily in the top-10 forwards, just based on his ES scoring (ranked 2nd in the league in ES P/60 behind Gaudreau). Some other top players rely a lot more on the PP.

Anyone else annoyed by the lack of stories coming out about the coaching search? Are they so inept that they are interviewing via Zoom instead of in person? Or are they just so good now at flying high profile NHL coaching candidates in and out without anyone knowing? Or are they just extending whatever they were doing between December and April and talking amongst themselves? Even the Torts interview seemed to be so low-keyed. Am I just being negative flyers fan, or is there reason for being annoyed at what seems to be incompetence?

Marner elevates anybody he plays with. That's what makes him so valuable.

And if he really needs to play selfish and score the goals himself, he can cut through the D and deke the pants off the goalie if he wants.

But again, point is moot because there's no realistic trade to be had.

I think other than firing the coach and either resigning Campbell or finding another goalie to replace him, the Leafs have hitched their wagons to the core of Tavares, Matthews, Marner, Nylander and O'Reilly, which is a pretty good wagon to hitch up, and they will just come back next year and try again. I think its a pipe dream that the Leafs would want to trade Marner, but if they did I honestly don't know what they would want so I'm not sure if the Flyers would have it or not. I mean what if the Leafs are enamored with Hart? Would they do something desperate to get him? I guess its possible since the Leafs just lost in the playoffs for the 7th year in a row.

How can you be this night and day at home vs the road?
- Pelle31Forever

I told you all didn't I? Carolina is not an elite team and really cannot play the way they want to on the road. They have matchup issues, and for some reason take a lot of penalties on the road and it causes them to get behind. Once behind Carolina has trouble coming back because they really do not have that elite forward in their group. They have a bunch of good players, but no elite players and it costs them. This is now the 6th road playoff loss in a row, and its much more than just a fluke. They may beat the Rangers in game 7, but its also possible they don't if they play this upcoming game 7 like they did against Boston. In the previous game 7 Boston had some glorious looks and could not convert and that is what ultimately cost them the series. As I posted earlier, I believe the Rangers are better offensively than Boston and if Carolina comes out the same way the Rangers will make them pay for it.

Then how did they let him leave the building? How could he have not been impressed by the presentation they presented? This is the best job out there you believe.

Toronto media and pressure would eat him up. Better goalies to get enamored over if they wanted to do something desperate.

No. It isnt common to get that kind of information. I dont often see news about other teams coaching search.

I havent seen anything regarding the Redwings, Nothing from Dallas, Havent heard anything from WPG since interviewing Trotz. Isles had no news until they promoted Lambert. There hasnt been any news with Vegas either. Even FLA has been quiet. Probably still deciding whether or not to extend Brunnette.

They are 1 game away from the conference finals using a backup goalie. How are they not elite? You keep bring up these issues on the road but none of this was present until playoffs. They are also undefeated at home and the next game is a home game.

You're embarrassing yourself. Every day you disqualify yourself more and more. Last season on a bad team, with both having subpar years with inconsistency. Atkinson scored 50 points and Konecny 52. However you state that one of the top elite offensive forwards in the league would be lucky to get 60 points.

Honestly, maybe take up checkers or chess. Hockey is not the sport for you.

Best fries in the business, IMO. Their burgers used to be better 30 years ago, but I guess standards dropped (along with Flyers winning standards).
