I disagree. If they can get some better health next season and get an adequate replacement for Hart. The Flyers would move up in the standings with Marner. Not down.
- MJL

i see his point, and i do agree that a marginal step up in the standings is not necessarily the best thing for the flyers.

however, the name of the game is injecting top talent that is young. that is marner. i wouldnt scoff at it simply because he is a winger rather than a center.

I love Marner as much as the next guy, but someone want to fill me on who the Flyers goalie would be?

Marner would have no trouble getting points on Philly. He is a top tier player. He is the type of player we need and the type of player who has the skill to produce no matter the linemates.
- xShoot4WarAmpsx

Our team shooting % has to be below 10 over last 10 years.
Of course we would ruin Marner

No, I understand that point of the overall outlook. I just think he's wrong that the move would make the Flyers go down in the standings. The other point which you hinted at is that some think that you can remove all top talent from a team and expect young developing players to flourish and grow. If they're given too big a role too soon, they likely won't. You have to get the ball moving forward somewhat and have a support structure in place. Even in a draft and develop strategy. It's a fine line.

it is. i definitely think i place more stock into the pick high strategy than you, but i do agree you cant completely strip mine and expect things to flourish. it is a fine line and hard to thread the needle perfectly, but there needs to be some sort of insulation for the prized prospects/young guys or else things can stay rudderless far longer than intended. its why i think not trading coots isnt the worst thing in the world. i do think there would be major benefits to moving him now, but there is also a flip side to that coin that having him around will help young guys from not being totally abandoned in the wilderness.

I think you misread the value I place in a high pick strategy. I'm just not in favor of tanking but many in my opinion don't understand what tanking actually is. You have a shoot first player in Owen Tippet and a shooter like Foerster to grow and develop once he gets to the NHL. Play him with an offensive catalyst and playmaker like Marner.

Is he still living near Philly? Flyers are paying him until 2027 and he’s only 2 years older than Mike Smith. Someone remind Fletcher.

Lol, plus as an added bonus, he played for Minnesota so he'd fit in well!

Go look at the guys making $11M, there’s guys that absolutely deserve it and then horrible horrible contracts. Tavares being one of them. I don’t think Ktachuk would be horrible but that’s quite an overpayment. He’s probably like you said, a 30-35 goal guy that’s between 75-85 points. Great player but he should not be making $11M. Look at his play in the Oilers series, he was horrible.
- ClaudeFather

Yeah I don’t think he’s 11 m player. I was referring to if you gotta go 11 m and slightly overpay you do it for elite talent. He’s elite in his own way. Rather see the overpay for that type top end player then all these middling players.

Probably 25% of philly cap is just overpay to players that puts them in position to never get real top end talent

Read an article the other day outlining a proposed trade between the Flyers and Leafs: Marner for Hart/TK. Would you do it? I thought about it and I would not do it and here is why, I am not sold on Mitch Marner. Yes he is coming off career highs in goals and points, however how much of that is from playing with Matthews and being part of a PP with Nylander, Matthews, O'Reilly and Tavares? Plus the Flyers would have to pay Marner $10.9M for 3 more years. I really don't think the Flyers are in any position to throw that type of money at any player right now until they can get a good coach in here and see what they actually got.

I'm biased AF when it comes to Mitch Marner... ofc I'd do it

But seriously, he's not the product of anybody, he's one of the best players in the league, period. If he ended up on the Flyers, he'd be the most talented player here since... maybe Eric Lindros. He's better than peak Claude.

One of the top-5 playmakers in the league, can finish, can PK, plays decent NZ defense, and everybody loves him in the room. He's worth every penny of his contract, too.

But yeah... Dubas would hang up and immediately block Fletch's number. There's absolutely nothing the Flyers have that the Leafs would value enough to trade Matthews or Marner. I'm not even sure they have the pieces to grab Nylander.

I feel like if peak Claude had the benefit of playing with the type of players Marner has had, they’d have been pretty close. Giroux had some pretty nice seasons. It would almost be like getting a brand new Claude in his prime.

Here’s the thing, though. Marner isn’t a huge goal scorer, either. Much like G, his primary game is to distribute. 26-32 goals is gonna be what you normally get out of him, with a boatload of assists to hover around a ppg on average. I know he’s done more than that before, but I’m looking at this roster and I don’t see a Matthews or Tavares. It’ll dip.

Now, if you want to put some scorers around Marner, then great, I’m with you. But if they don’t, and they waste this guys potential, too, how frustrated will you and the other fans be?

Especially at that price tag

Marner elevates anybody he plays with. That's what makes him so valuable.

And if he really needs to play selfish and score the goals himself, he can cut through the D and deke the pants off the goalie if he wants.

But again, point is moot because there's no realistic trade to be had.

No, I don’t think the trade has any possibility whatsoever, and the idea was just a guy spitballing in our off seasons.

I like Marner, but man, the Leaf boards get on him pretty good sometimes. I’m guessing it goes back to the contract negotiations, but they sure have called him soft quite a bit.

Bryzgalov was well liked by his teammates in Minnesota. Koivu,Parise and Suter let him attend their leadership meetings. Bryzgalov interview clip, “ Bad news is I’m not playing tomorrow. Good news, we have a chance to win”.

According to theFourthPeriod The Flyers are not actively shopping Provorov. No one on the team is untouchable but he is likely to return next season

They also state According to a source, members of the Flyers’ management are attending the World Hockey Championship right now and a decision on a coach will “most likely” be made once they return to Philadelphia.
