Yeah, I was going from memory. But Im still going back and forth as to whether it would be worth it or not. - MBFlyerfan
You'd have $5.66M total in dead cap space to not have him play. You're better off eating half his salary and finding a trading partner for a 7th (big if).
Why would anyone want Montgomery as coach? Stifling boring d system hampered Dallas offense. What would team look like with him? Nowhere near the offense talent of Dallas as people think he’s right for here. Mind boggling
I just don't see a great benefit from doing it now.
And they possibly get something useful in return if they wait until the trade deadline. - rayc16
If they keep JVR, they will have very little cap space to do anything to upgrade the team after the Risto deal.
If they sign Frost & Tippet for $1m each, and sign the other RFAs at the league minimum, they would have a 22 man roster and only $3m in space. To add a Gaudreau or a Kadri they would need to move JVR's deal with no retention.

Are they really at the point they should be considering signing either of those players?
Tristan Luneau
I didn't know much about Tristan luneau but after reading about his progression and background these last few years I really think this kid may be an absolutely steal and a gem to whoever chooses him.
Right now he's not even on the board for the draft but if I had an early 2nd rd pick I'd strongly consider taking a swing with this kid

I’m OK with Montgeomery but think Torts would be a huge mistake. Listening to Greg Wyshynski talk up Torts on the radio today. He mentioned a “close relationship with Bobby Clarke “.Does anyone know what he was referring to?
I don’t think I want to go down that road again.

With a 22 man roster you likely wont be adding a player anyways. If the FLyers are aggressively retooling, it means that players who play a big part on the team are more likely to go.
Moving Bottom 6 forwards and bottom pair D isnt exactly retooling. Its they guys you are building around that are going to be changed out. Aggressive retool doesnt mean a move needs to be made right now. Fletcher gave a timetable of 3 years. The big moves could be left for the trade deadline or next offseason.
I did hear some speculation that the Flyers would be looking for two for one deals. So we'd give up a player for a player and a pick

Plus, he's a former Flyer so no way!!!!! All jokes aside, finding the right fit for this group will be tough. You make a good point about Dallas and their offense. We don't even have a legit 1st line.

Retool, rebuild, whatever. Basically everyone on this roster is a disappointment to me.

The Flyers currently only have 17 players on the roster for next season.

They aren’t going to have the ability to make a lot of moves. Even if they sign Gaudreau or Kadri. It’s not anywhere close to enough.
Bundy said it best on a very recent podcast, that the team just isn’t going to be there for the next 4-5 years. I actually think that’s a really good, and realistic assessment.
They aren’t in a vacuum, and they have been jumped by the Rangers along with New Jersey. Two clubs that were supposed to be behind the Flyers.
Buffalo has a greater collection of younger talent, Detroit most definitely does as well. Ottawa is knocking on that door, and I think people will see how good Chabot is fairly soon.
There is solace in some of these facts. They will rebuild whether they want to or not.

Don't underestimate this GM. I believe there is going to be at least one hockey trade made that may not be expected. It wouldn't surprise me if moves are made to create cap space. This is their M.O.
I honestly think that 4-5 years is optimistic. I just think this team is going to keep making moves that set them back.
