Thanks for the reminder never to read anything from Canucks Army again.

Yeah, Canuck Army is a complete waste of time.

Benning hits a home run in the draft and trades it for a single. Adam Clendening.

Would have made the trade for OEL even less necessary.

We traded one year of cap hell and a 1st to try and save JB's job which lasted all of a few months.

It's scary that a management team that is lauded for scouting could trade a good defensive prospect, especially when the cupboard is bare for essentially nothing. Oh right, it made the team marginally better at the time.

Let's hope we escape that mindset moving forward unless we're a top 5ish team at the deadline.

Don't count on it.

It's one thing to see things as a fan.

When you are being paid millions of dollars to run a hockey team you may want to actually watch the players in your system. I don't care if it's video. Most people that make that kind of money work 60+ hours a week.

I go there for a laugh. Always fun listening to analytic types
tell you how some stat is a fact, then listen to them backtrack, when they realize the fact that the stat was flawed and isn't anywhere near being factual.

I like to go there to hear stat deniers spout off about how a stat isn’t the truth, when they really don’t understand what a statistic is, or how it’s useful.

Ya, always fun listening to those ones as well, not as fun as listening to the stat guys who deny benefits of some pretty basic and justifiable stats though.

If they add the eye test for more credibility it would give more substance. Puking out stats isn’t enough cuz any nerd can produce stats. Lastly circumstances are not easily defined to the degree I find analytics to be anything more than a guide or tendencies. So much more goes into a players results.

A player like Petey recovering from injury & no camp has a HUGE bearing on stats good or bad.

Any stat out there for that?

Any stat out there that coaching influence?

Any stat out there that includes TOI changing rhythms due to PP’s & PK’s?

Or goalies when hot & cold during a game?

Or 1 bad bounce off the boards or glass?

Yeah, all they tell you is what’s likely. I use statistics every day, and for the most part, they’re pretty reliable. I’m sure it’s the same in your business. In restaurants, if you serve an average of 200 people on Monday’s over the past 8 weeks, next Monday it’s likely you’ll see about 200 people. Sure, the weather could be crap an you only do 130, or there could be a grad ceremony that day and you end up seeing 350, but if you aren’t paying attention to those other variables you probably won’t be in business long.

In hockey, if your goalie has a .923 save % you can expect that in the next game he’ll likely make 9 saves for every 10 shots, unless he’s Mike Smith or Jacob Markstrom, in which case you have no clue what you’re going to get.

Anyone send out a search party for K-man? Worried about his mental health dealing with a near sweep of his Flames by the Oilers

I am still waiting for the day when after a big playoff win, a player says he isn't sure if the team played well or not, because he hasn't been able to hear from the analytics crew yet.
