I will believe he will be the 7th/8th dman when it happens. That's what everyone said last year.

I do not believe they will call up Zamula or Attard as their history suggest otherwise.

They need to go into the off season with the notion that Ellis will not play. If he does he will miss some time more than likely. They need to sign/trade for a legit top 4 guy. If Ellis plays great as makes you that much better.

In no order:
Ivan - trade/free agent
Sanheim - RR
York- ?

So me they need a bottom pair guy and a top 4 guy. Then and only then will Seller be the #7. No interest in Haag as been there done that. Also do not think they would have york and another young guy in the top 6 at the same time.

- hello it's me 2050

Seeler was the 7th D last year. Because Ellis missed the entire year. That 7th D was forced to play. Flyers picked up Connauton as well off waivers and became our 8th D. Over the course of the season we lost more guys on D as well. Ristolainen, Sanheim, Provorov all missed a few games at one point.

The choice to play Seeler or Cannauton was AV/Yeo's decision. After the Trade deadline when the Flyers started playing their prospects, Seeler only played 5 games after the deadline

I am thinking he gets resigned. I wonder after this year did DeAngelo price himself out of Carolina.
- J35Bacher

Apparently he was a model citizen in Carolina this year….he will have several teams interested and justly so.

Seeler had his own injury issues. What choice does a coach have but to play the players available to him on the roster? The GM decides who is on the roster.

Provorov needs a partner who can skate and move the puck out of the zone. Braun is not that type of defenseman, whereas Ellis and York are which is why IMO Provey looked better playing with them versus Braun.
- jd250

That is so sad if you really think about it.

I've never heard that argument made about any other (de facto) #1 in the league... that they need help moving the puck or they can't function properly.

Because all the other top dmen in the league have partners that are above replacement level players.

Braun played well above replacement level this season, tho. He was surprisingly effective defensively. Provy had the green light to push play and pinch but just... didn't... until the last couple weeks of the season. Still wondering what's been going on with him.

Stupid question of the Day:

Would you trade Sanheim for Ottawa's 1st (7th overall)?

Also, looking around the league, there are quite a few #1's who were stuck w/ replacement level or worse:

- Hedman has to carry Jan Rutta,
- Werenski has to carry Andrew Peeke,
- Quinn Hughes has to carry Luke Schenn,
- Burns has to carry Mario Ferraro,
- Dahlin has to carry Henri Jokiharju,
- Ghost has to carry Dysin Mayo,
- Seider has to carry Marc Staal,
- Carlson basically carried Marty Fehervary.

Didn't stop any of them from putting up pretty solid seasons.

Attard was horrible, he’s a long time away.

Who would look good with a D partner who should have been retired?

Our D is so swiss cheese right now I'd have to say no. Probably because I don't want to wait for that player and because it's a crap shoot on who you do get. Although if you are talking full rebuild... Maybe?

How about a lightly used Rasmus Ristolainen instead?

(I'd even take Zaitsev back to make it happen)

Except Provorov is not Hedman, Burns, Quinn, Seider or Carlson Caliber. These guys are well above what Provorov is.

The rest are poor examples.

1) Ghost is not a #1 Dman. He is an offensive dman who is mediocre in his own end. He may have played on the top pair but that was due to injury with Chychrun. Arizona who was also still bottom of the league so clearly he wasnt the solution. He produced 30 points at even strength and was still a minus 23. Thats not counting the goals he was on the ice for but didnt get a point on.

Werenski is the same point. Another 30 point EVSTR D at -15 on a non playoff team. Perhaps if Werenski had a better partner Columbus would have challenged for the playoffs

The comparisons are ridiculous as you are comparing Dmen whos biggest strength is their offense or just on a whole other level to Provorov., Every single Dman has out produced Provorov's career high of 41 points. That is not his biggest strength.

If you are expecting Provorov to carry the Flyers like Pronger did you are in for a bad time because Provorov is not that kind of Dman there is no Dman on the Flyers roster that can.

Provorov is not a top tier top pair Dman

The issue is the entire Flyers team for the most struggled on breakouts. The team as a whole is awful defensively. Combine that with Prpvorov's own sub par play, which I believe in part has been caused by the team situation around him. You get a struggling player.

Actually, attacking offensively at 5 on 5 is Provorov's biggest strength. He's not a dominant defensive player. He's solid but overall play and joining the rush at 5 on 5 are his strengths as a player. He's had to be used as an all situation #1 defenseman on the Flyers. He's not that player.

100% YES. those that say no have little understanding or value of draft capital. I could see a no maybe if he were on a real cup contending team. A 2nd pair dman on a poop team Would never fetch the 7 th overall. Well I mean unless stupid ass philly was trading the pick

yep.

If I was Sanheim would I want to re-sign here? No. So if he doesn't you need to move him. Could chuck do better than 7th overall? I have faith he couldn't.

Why force a captain if there is none there. Couts would be a big mistake. Run a season without a captain seems to be working for Rangers.
