I'm not sure it's a visual evidence issue so much as it is an "I've never played hockey" thing.
- Tonybere

disagree. we're not discussing a "hockey" concept when we are arguing whether or not he extended his elbow. it's literally visual evidence

Chip Alexander is a guy who's been covering the Canes for a long time and hates every second of it. He got put on the beat in 1997 when the Canes landed in Greensboro. Has zero interest in covering the Canes. He's a college basketball guy.

so he just wakes up after a Canes game, pours some Jack into his morning coffee, and hate-writes his article with the least amount of effort possible

I was at a game in Greensboro that season. Once it became known my buddies and I were Canadian, we were explaining the entire game to those around us!
I was told by three different people that night that hockey wouldn't last in basketball country! To which I responded, of course, that basketball was invented by a Canadian.

Yep. The one time he tried to branch out he went on Toucher and Rich and they told him they couldn't talk hockey with a guy with that accent and hung up on him.

Seriously.

He shows up to press conferences at games and morning skates but very rarely makes an appearance at practice.

If NC State has a basketball or football game on the same time as a Canes road game he covers State instead.

What a (frank)ing disaster Greensboro was. 21000 seat arena 2 hours outside of Raleigh. Should have just spent another season in Hartford but Karmanos wouldn't do it.

I'm amazed a team lasted in Harford as long as it did. That city is hot garbage.

Meh -- I've seen some nice parts, but overall you're probably correct

We considered moving there for a hot second. Spent a weekend looking at houses and that was a big, fat pass

Yep. Up until Sara Civian came, the Canes had a couple guys who followed the beat but none that wrote for a major publication.

Now the team itself hired Scott Burnside to do puff pieces for them.

Civian is a good writer but I generally find her demeanor to be.....awful

Well she IS from Boston ....

She got her first big break with Dejan in Pittsburgh who got super weird and had her do some tv spots because, and I quote, "her tits will look great on Channel..." and that became a bit of a circus.

Well that probably explains her militant attitude

Unrelated: after yesterday's (or whatever day it was) conversation, I only picture you living in the town of Letterkenny

Yeah it was ugly. From Deadspin:

After the Pirates beat writer left the site in August of 2017, Civian was switched over to cover baseball. She says she made clear to Kovacevic that she wasn’t a baseball expert, but he wanted her to fill the position anyway. One former staffer told me they asked Kovacevic, in a phone call, “‘Does she know anything about baseball?’” The former staffer said Kovacevic, referencing the local NBC affiliate, replied, “‘I don’t know, but her tits will look good on Channel 11.’”

And I WISH where I lived was like Letterkenney. At least then there'd be a bar.

That was the funnest and least stressful playoff game I can remember in a long time

Need more like that haha

I was sitting on the couch at one point thinking the same thing… and then Carolina scored, and all was good again in the world.
