it happens, but not very often, and usually not for more than like 10 or 15 minutes... it was the first time I ran out for so long.

It’s a pain in the ass, sitting around wondering when it’s gonna come back on.

Have issues at the cabin all the time, installed a natural gas genny when we built

I got enough problems..

cool. I ran out of power here for almost 48 hours because of a storm saturday, kinda (frank)ed up my whole weekend. oh well loll
- Pat1993

Wow! Why did it take that long? Must have been some storm!

Down here it takes a hurricane to be that long without power. Only because sometimes both the powerplants and the transmissions get blitzed in the aftermath. But if we lose power for a T-Storm, even a strong one, it's usually back up in minutes. But the utilities here have smart-switching so they can re-route transmission if need be until the broken lines are restored, because it happens so much. The worst may be an hour or two if a main transformer blows. But that'd be really rare. FPL really has their poop together.

But for one of the hurricanes way back (Charley, Aug 2004), I wound-up without water for almost a week while I never lost electricity. Turned out the water treatment plant got hit hard. Luckily my work place still had running water so I just washed-up (and TCOB) there and got bottled water for drinking/cooking at home for the night. After that one I did what the experts advise and always fill up as many drinking jugs as well as every bath tub with water before hunkering down (you can take the water from the tub with a bucket to keep your toilet tank filled, as well as use it for washing dishes). Though I never wound up ever needing the stored up water again like I would've for Charley.

But lately we've just bugged out of town to stay up North with family. Last time was at my aunt in Northern Georgia for Matthew (Fall 2017?), but the storm wound-up hitting us up there anyway (although it weakened to a sub-tropical storm by then). I'm glad we did because my neighbors said we had no power for 8 days, and I had to replace my roof (it didn't blow off, it just had enough damage to the shingles to cause leaks). I now live in a newer place with a tile roof that's guaranteed to survive a strong Cat-3, so we'll see how that goes...

first time i ever pulled over for rain in my life was last friday. orlando got 6 inches if rain in about an hour.
- Gramps28

I remember that in the news. That all died before ever reaching me to the east, so we stay dry. It's all depends where the easterly-westerly seabreezes collide for the day. With much better radar I tend to keep an eye out and try to stay put wherever I am before heading out in the worst of it. Not tried and true, but it helps. But I've been stuck in rain like that where it's just too heavy to see an inch in front of you with the wipers at full tilt to keep driving. It was scarier whenever I got caught on my MC in the heavy stuff (a smart rider also learns to wait so that all the oils and goop that makes the road the slipperiest when the rain first starts washes away after enough time). Although in the middle of the summer it was nice sometimes to get wet and use the evaporative cooling effect while moving to cool-down while drying off. Some of the best rides I had were just after a good summer t-storm, as it also helps to clean the air of many bugs.

it was quite the storm indeed, especially since we're in a valley, we rarely ever get storms as strong as that.

running out of water for a week..? yeah that must also suck pretty bad.
