Apparently the couple of years before the past 3 years?
Agreed. Gibson isnt the answer and would kill our cap.
The cap increase and Kessel's cap retention are pretty much spoken for with Morgan's extension.

Find the two best “take a chance” guys we can afford and let them compete/share the net. I have no idea who they are.

Tell me how that is relevant, would the Oilers have swept the Flames by now if he didnt do that?

Bottom line is Kane and Mcdavid are playing amazing and they are celebrating together for a lot of goals.

The goal is to win the cup and that is what the move is helping with.

Anyone saying that was not a good signing is just grasping at straws.

Unless you can explain to me how Kane is making the oilers chances worse right now. I am all ears.

- Santo_44

It was a great signing and Kane looks like a perfect fit next to McDavid.

As I mentioned earlier, Oilers had more incentive to take the risk on a problematic individual than the Leafs did.

Good for Kane and good for Edmonton if everything works out.

Until it doesn't.

Of course if they win a cup, none of the "after" matters.

The prospect of brining in Kane had risk attached to it for teams who didn't do it (including Toronto) and the Oilers. His reputation proceeds him and the risk was to disrupt a team of players who all got along and this is what people had reservations about including 30 other GM's.

Yes it worked out well for the Oilers so far but to say it was a zero risk move is just plain inaccurate.

Indeed so far the Oilers gamble is paying off.

- Cush29

I dont agree it was risky.

It is perfectly fine if you or anyone else did at the time. I can see your side there.

But now the move has worked out fantastic and there is really no debate unless success in the NHL means something different to someone. But the cup matters and there is no commitment to Kane after this cup run.

If they signed him to more then a year the sure, you could say there could be problems down the road.

But for now? The move is one of the main reasons they are playing today.

In hindsight I would have loved the leafs to make that signing.

that's only wishful thinking.

yeah, not the greatest thing but I think the Leafs are stuck with him.
if the Leafs buy him out, what kind signal/optics/red flag does it send to a UFA.

Is McDavid keeping Kane in-line/check?

They are up 3-1 in round 2 and Kane has 12 goals in 11 games.

Who cares what Kane is doing.

Yeah I find it difficult to look beyond three recent years considering sports is very much a "what have you done for me lately" world. Gibson hasn't done too much. I GET the reason why some may want to gamble with him but he isn't without question marks.

Without proper research, that is an ignorant comment.
