Well the deal that you have MAF accepting is illegal under the CBA. A 35+ contract cannot be front loaded.

The new CBA Memo of Understanding contains a new rule that allows a player to sign a multi-year 35+ deal that is not front loaded, and they can retire if they want. The cap hit disappears when they do.

The new CBA MOU says this:

64. 35+ Year Old Rule for Cap Counting

CBA ยง50.5(d)(i)(B)(5) shall have no application to a multi-year SPC that has: (1) total compensation (Player Salary and Bonuses) that is either the same as or increases from one League Year to the immediately subsequent League Year, and (2) a Signing Bonus, if any, that is payable in the first year of the SPC only.

35+ Contracts can be front loaded, contract suggested is completely legal.

What you are quoting is saying that IF the contract is front loaded, then the rule about 35+ contracts cap hits still counting even if the player retires applies. They could sign MAF to that contract, but his full cap hit would count even if he retired.

My salary contract and expectations for Giroux will be quite simple. He is 34 years old so my assumption will be a 3 year deal worth around 6 million per. If he is offered 4 years he might go less against the cap hit so maybe 5 million per year there. Which looking at his numbers this year on a bad scoring team like Philly was still quite well.

In Philly over the 82 game season he still would have gotten around 60 points, once again on a bad scoring team.

In Florida, given the small sample, he was averaging 1.28 points per game. Over an 82 game season that's 104 points. We know its a small size but he still performed well. Giroux is the reason the Panthers closed out Washington in the last 2 games. Against Tampa, no one from Florida was "visible" and I say it in "" because Tampa's game jumped up significantly from round 1. Their defense was high pressure, their forecheck was outstanding and the goaltending was insane.

I don't think Giroux returns to Florida, I can actually see him sliding into a team knocking on the door right now on the verge of the ending playoff rounds. One unique twist would be in Edmonton but I think if he goes out West its to Colorado. If he stays East I think he stays in the states and perhaps a team like Carolina would scoop him up. I don't see him going back to Philly as they are looking to restart their building.

Too lazy to write a proposal, my girls been asking for one for 20 years and ain't got one either...but G will go to Colorado to replace Kadri who will be gone. Giroux 4 years at 5.5

The Avs have Kuemper, Manson, Nichushkin, Kadri and Burakovsky coming up as UFA and at least have to meet the QO for Lehkonen but their MO is to sign RFA's longer term. Kadri will walk, they simply can't afford him. All those other guys will be prioritized over Burky so he will likely be gone also. I don't see how they can give increases to Kuemper (even if it's not a literal increase they won't have the AZ retention), Nichushkin, Lehkonen (plus, again, no retention) and, one more time, no retention on Manson and sign Giroux. I suppose they could ship out salary for someone like Compher but even that may not be enough. Newhook has been the plan for 2C since the night he was drafted.
