His other foot was in the air after it hit Mike Smith's pads, so my thought is he probably put his foot down to stop as a reaction did that toward the puck. That one angle looks like a kick but the other 9 don't. It's a dumb rule though, either allow them to use their feet or don't. The redirect with the skates vs. kicking motion is dumb, make it black and white so it's not up for interpretation.

Totally agree. Should be allowed to use feet with puck however you want IMO. Just not allowed to kick at other players or their sticks haha.

Totally agree. You should be able to use your feet/skate with puck however you want, or at least with skate completely on the ice you can, IMO.

He definitely made sure his skate knocked it in but that was not a kick.

Too many NHL rules have a high degree of subjectivity.

This is how I see it too. Should have been a good goal.

Yup. Whether you want to call it a kick or not is irrelevant to me. He made sure to extend his foot and get that puck in.

That's the thing. I'd say it was a 50/50 call then.

As others have said the NHL needs to take away all questions/subjectivity when it comes to rules.

I wonder how many times the rule book mentions refs discretion?

50/50 shouldn't be enough to overturn the call on the ice

They will complain about it for years but I thought it was a 50/50 call. Tough one.
- Barnaby36

If that’s Mcdavid it’s not a 50/50 call. It’s good goal on the ice no questions asked.
Then the discussion would be about how much offensive awareness he has to make sure his skate hit the puck on one leg.

If Letang leaves, what do you guys think about going after Burns in SJ? He's still producing. Cap hit isn't great, but not sure SJ is looking to keep competing. What could he cost?

Thems the breaks. The Pens are not the first team to get effed in the playoffs because of injuries.

Liar. We were missing our top shutdown defenseman the final six games.

Plus Jarry with a broken foot (yeah I guess we could of started our 3rd stringer again who was statistically the worst goalie in playoffs) and Sid not looking anywhere close to himself.. Oh and a top 6 winger back not looking anything like himself, either. If it was regular season or even not a game 7, Sid, Rakell and Jarry would of been out longer.

The one game that had everything on the line and your whole team was there..Crosby..Jarry..Rakell and they couldnt get it done. Only reason series went 7 is because Lindgren got hurt and Shesterkin lost his way for a few games..and oh yeah the gift the refs gave Pens in game 1 calling back Chytil's winning goal. Refs dont call that goal back Rangers win in 4. Fact is Pens lost..Rangers dominated Pens all season. Hoping you guys do sign Malkin and Letang bring the senior citizen group back again for another 1st round elimination.

Panarin hurt all series..Lindgren hurt all series missed 3 games..Goodrow out all series. All excuses . Every team has injuries. Pens were dominated by Rangers all season . Refs calling back winning goal in game 1 for Sid is what made this a series.

I actually think it could be ok depending on what the deal looks like. In fact, I think it could be something to investigate even if he doesnt leave. All depends on how hungry SJ is to move him.

If we can go ahead and do Pettersson and Zucker for him then I think you have to do it. SJ gets out of a big contract, they could use Pettersson on their 2nd pair and Zucker will be gone by the trade deadline for some picks. If we can keep Letang, I'd even do Marino and Zucker for Burns... have to think that is a deal they would be really interested in.

I'll counter you on one... assuming we keep Letang and have Marino still on the roster... what would you be wiling to pay for Subban on a one year rental? I personally can't stand the guy but I think he would see the Pens as a good opportunity for a bounce back and if you can get him for $2-3M I almost feel like you'd have to do it.

I mean, in spite of losing Letang, I'd be happy there.

Have to love the guy arguing your Connor Murphy trade... that would be a no brainer for the Hawks and frankly as a Pens fan I'd be pissed.

I think it's a fair deal for Murphy. He's a very solid dman. Good defensively, big, physical and can play big minutes. It's clearly not a replacement for Letang, nothing can be, but it gives the Pens solid play down the right side.
