Actually, there was a process and it was followed. There isn't a crystal ball with this stuff. I have a friend that works for the FBI in this area - you can go out at any time and find thousands and thousands of people that fit this profile.

The late Charles Krauthammer used to lament that in the late 1970s we changed mental health laws so that we can no longer institutionalize many of the people who need to be. He often said a mental health epidemic was coming. This was his area of expertise. It seems he was right.

i do get annoyed how everyone pounds the gavel on gun control but very few talk about mental health awareness, teaching and over medicating instead of treating

And what a (frank)ing joke those were. Obliterating a bad practice and not implementing a good one is why we are here.

Imagine 'lamenting' losing institution laws from the 70s and before.

Player vs prospect.
If Johnson is bolting for FA (that needs to be sorted out yet) to go to his favorite team then, to me as GM of a team that isn't his target; he has very low value to me.

- IonSabres

I know there are "signs" that this could be the case, but could it be possible that Johnson's camp simply sees the Sabres already have guys like Dahlin and Power penciled in at the top and there could be better situations for him to work his way up?

I think the cost of Talbot and Dumba wouldn't be to significant. Wild need cap space.

I'd only take Talbot if we were to get Dumba as well. If not go get a better goalie.

This is not an area I know anything about, but I think he was head of Mass General psychiatric ward. I Think he was aiming for a higher standard than you know what they did in Victorian England.

Good post, but johnson already carries a fall back 2nd rounder value down the road.

I really like asplund, I know you really like Johnson

And ryan johnson as a player too πŸ˜€

Agree on your previous post πŸ‘

#uncleionbourbon mentioned pick 28 and Johnson

Or

Pick 16 and asplund.

I'm just gauging how drunk he is already?
Its 10:43 pm somehwhere right?

What's the difference between asplund and Johnson, stripes mentioned the ufa college part, which was an excellent point. Unsigned vs signed.

I'd rather have selke Swede, just curious what others thought of their values

- Boss34

Hmmm, one actually plays in the NHL and continues to develop.
The other is a prospect who has serious questions about playing for your team and has the Avenue to leave easily.

Stop sniffing glue.

Man, the grass isn't always greener, right? There are no guarantees he goes to, say, LA and becomes the next Rob Blake. I can't stand this way of thinking, if that's what the case is. You were drafted by the Sabres. Go play for them. He's got the chance to come here and be part of what many think will be a dominant top 6 in this league (especially if he were to add to this D core).

I guess it depends on your confidence level. If you aspire to become a #1 defenseman in this league, which I have no idea if he does or not, it's going to be hard to do in Buffalo. At best, you're third in line behind Dahlin and Power already. I'm not trying to justify it, but it could be more than some elaborate scheme to go play in LA.

Excellent post

Johnson probably wants to be a star in the nhl, not back up dahlin, power , samuelsson and joker.

I'd use him regardless of his intentions. I don't really care. He's a luxury asset, close to breaking into the NHL. For Fiala specifically, it gives the Wild a nice cost controlled defensive option for the future.

Personally for me, Portillo holds higher value than Johnson. Again, regardless of signing intention.

- TheSabresTaco

IMO, you're looking at this primarily from Sabres perspective and blowing off the concern about his intentions...which no GM is going to blow off. If it weren't for that aspect, Johnson would be a great chip for the reasons you cited. To me Portillo and Johnson are roughly equal. Portillo played great on an absolutely stacked team in front of him...he likely enjoyed a bump from it.

Johnson's value is a late 2nd rounder...literally the 1st in 3rd round. Too lasy to look it up, but the likelihood of getting a NHL player of consequence is relatively low. Johnson's probability of being one is substantially higher given his growth over the last 2 years.

I've started to post and then delete about four or five times on this.

I think that's the point. The attempted solution was to stop institutionalizing people (that probably still needed to be) rather than to improve the institutions themselves.

Ek gonna Ek but he has Rick Rakell going to the Sabres at 40% or whatever.

Also has Fiala re-signing with the Wild after Bill Guerin gave him the Reinhart treatment.
