Oh FFS, they don't draw Tampa they are out of round one this year, but Tampa in round two means the end. And round two also is not good enough.

You disregarded the previous four years of failure I see. Also the part about the back end of JT's contract being "ugly".

First,I thought it was five years and second, there are only three years left of his contract so I don't see it getting that ugly.

This is all true.

It is also true that it was a colossal mistake.

You don't need an 11M 2C. The Leafs had Matthews and Kadri.

It has prevented the Leafs from building using the gold standard template: 1G, 1D, 1C.

4 forwards @ 40M? Can't get us out of round one five years straight. Now that we're at the "contract won't age well" stage - it's going to be even harder.

- fifty__missions

It wasn’t considered a colossal mistake at the time, it was widely celebrated by Leafs fans.

Kadri’s playoff suspensions hurt the team. I loved Naz but he had to go.

The problem with the gold standard template is that they haven’t been lucky enough to draft a 1d or 1g to help them. I’m not sure who, at these positions, could have been added between the Tavares signing and now. Pietrangelo maybe? Bobrovsky and his 10 mil/per?

I think you are right. More important, contrary to much of the popular opinion, I do not think that moving the JT contract is nearly as difficult as some folks want to believe that it would be.

Wonder if the Canes/Rags goes 6+ if Point is back for the ECF.

He's forgetting about the Pens, and arguably the Capitals, who've won recently without his Golden Template.

Right. Brad Marchand is from Halifax, not Boston. Put up better numbers than Tavares his signing year on a competitive team and signed a deal 'in his prime' at a different value. You're right though, this troll can't count.

Does Rod Brind'Amour not make a difference in a Conference Final? Tampa has the best coach. Brind'Amour is not far behind. If the Canes get to game 7 they can win. My greater concern would be the Bolts are rolling and may knock out the Canes before they know what happened. But the Canes are a lot stronger behind the bench than the Panthers. They will adjust.

And Marchand resigned with his team, didn't go to market like Tavares did.

I sometimes think Willy's non-contact style leads him to getting more space, players aren't checking him as closely, nobody's pissed off at him and chasing him around either.

Looks like it’s hard to beat Tampa in a playoff game

Their goalie finally stood on his head.

Too he was below average against the leafs.

Won't matter, Tampa will walk over either of them also.
And if they do, I'll be starting to think that the Leafs are the second best team in hockey.

It was a weird series the first 4 games, like both teams forgot it was the playoffs. Things tightened up games 5/6/7.

I love all takes though that TBL wasn't themselves against the Leafs, but wow, TBL is back against FLA... or maybe the Leafs were a really good team and we shouldn't be blowing it up?

There's more than you think. A lot are calling for the GM, coach (saw more than one MSM calling for Trotz), trading core players including Nylander, Marner, Rielly. Matthews seems to be the only untouchable.

I understand the need for change and maybe moving one core player or getting a coach of trotz qualifications.
But either one of those moves is not necessarily blowing it up.
People are still pissed, gonna be some overreaction
