Trotz is this year’s Pietroangelo and unicorn season is open for coaches. - Canada Cup
Trotz is not suited to some teams. He likes for his teams to play the body and punish the opposing team. It worked well in Washington. Caps are a big bodied team that is well suited to hitting. Probably no different than Tortarella. But, after awhile you risk that some of your high skilled players just run down. This year, I think some of the smaller and lighter Islander players simply ran out of gas from the intense physical play of the previous year.
The style of Trotz (like Tortarella) would be a disaster in Toronto. The Leafs are a high skill, speed team. They are not suited to playing a physical crash and burn type of game. |

Very familiar with that term. It's more applicable to real problems, not sports. |

Again, part of his success there was because they already had components he could leverage. Now I mentioned Mike Green, but as we know - he never played a hard or heavy game. But he was big enough to take a hit and make a play successfully. Same with Carlson.
For the Leafs, that's Rielly. He has the size to withstand physical pressure.
I want to digress for a moment and just say that I am a huge fan of Trotz as a coach - I think it was the only thing Lou did right in New York. I have serious misgivings about his next moves there since a lot of the other personnel decisions have been highly questionable.
But if you have the Leafs, the following guys would all be shipped out or not resigned if you hired Trotz: Nylander, Mikeheyev, Engvall, Spezza, Kase, Kerfoot, Sandin, Liljegren, possibly Brodie, Bunting - and you replace them with stay-at-home or lunch bucket style players.
You get your dynamics on the back-end from Rielly on the power play, and you collapse and play the tight check / interfere / obstruct and capitalize on a turnover game for the rest of your 5v5 time.
In terms of the overall impact to this team? I don't think Trotz is the right coach for this team at this time, no. They are not the same as the Capitals. - Monkeypunk
Green wasn't a part of the Cup team. |

No, he wasn't - but he was there when Trotz arrived. I mentioned him as a part of the over 210lbs players that Trotz had when he started. It was at the end of Trotz' first year that Green left as a free agent for Detroit.

The Leafs are willing to trade Barkov. The Leafs would even allow Florida to retain half of his salary. Sounds like we have a plan.

If Subban is willing to come here for cheap, you replace him with Holl.
Get rid of Mrazek and all of a sudden the Leafs have a decent amount of space to work with. |

And they unfortantely didn't keep Alzner either.
Because he "thought he had more chances of winning the cup in Montreal".

In Pittsburgh's system. He didn't have a bad season in the A statistically speaking, but I never saw him play nor heard anything about his engagement level.

I really feel as if Dubas is going to trade for a good goalie with term.
Sure we can try for another "Campbell" but it just leaves us in the same spot in 2 years when the big guys contracts are over.

Gibson, Saros, Lehner.
Doubtful Saros gets traded.
Gibson seems the most likely here and after being against it at first I have warmed up to the idea of him being a target.
Gibson's ceiling is high, he is as talented as Vasi. |

I've got no problem with Zezel's positivity. He's a fan.
It's Dubas and Shanahan wearing the koolaid goggles that is problematic. |

Saros, sure. he has had 4 nice seasons in a row. reasonable contract. they have Askarov who is still very young. doubt they are ready to hand over things to a 20yo. but who knows
Gibson, Id stay away from, 3 very average years in a row. too much risk imo to get little to no improvement.
lehner...no idea on his status

I bet they bring Spezza back to at least get his 1000 points.
